The Scribe
An enigmatic figure who seems to reside only in the depths of the Worldshadow, the Scribe is thought to be the first being who forged a bargain with the time god Lore. His origins are mysterious, and an eternity spent in the darkness has made his true name, age, or even race unclear. He spends his days in his sanctum, watching the flow of history in the daylight world and recording it all in a seemingly endless library of scrolls.
The Scribe takes very little notice and forms no lasting connections with mortals, seeing them all as transient in the endless flow of time. His only real relationship is to Lore, the Lord of the Worldshadow and the one who allows his continued existence within the timeless realm. The Scribe feels a great deal of gratitude for the god's ongoing protection against the Blood Gods, and Lore is the only one who seems to truly penetrate the haze of half-glimpsed visions that constantly surrounds him.
Personality
Neither friendly nor hostile towards visitors, the Scribe seems to enjoy his solitude and prefers his solitary vigil to the company of others. Though he's somewhat stiff and formal, it's almost certainly because he's following the customs and affectations of some culture long since lost to history. The rare few who've met with him in person describe him as unsettling. He comes across as rambling and half-mad, though in truth it's a toss-up whether he's mad or simply used to watching all things at all times; he seems to oscillate back and forth between distraction and focus, intensely fixated on his guests or seeming to lose track of them as though they were mere ghosts. Conversations with him are often cryptic, and while he has an immense amount of knowledge to share he layers his words in enough metaphor that it's often hard to make out exactly how much of what he's saying is purely symbolic and how much has a more meaningful message hidden within it. It's almost impossible to get a straight answer out of the Scribe, and while this doesn't seem to be a conscious or malicious decision he'll very rarely clarify things if asked. The only one who can get a straightforward answer from him is Lore himself, and he answers to no other authority.Abilities
Though the true limits of what the Scribe is capable of remain as mysterious as anything else about him, the Scribe's greatest ability is his ability to scry the daylight world. Though there's a well of light in the center of his sanctum that he can direct to show events to others, he doesn't seem to rely on it for his own visions; he spends the entirety of his time recording the events that he deems significant from the flow of history so that they can be added to his vast library. It's assumed that he's watching all things at all times, though how exactly he's able to do this is unclear. Similarly unclear is how he can keep up with the flow of events he records.Backstory
While very little about the Scribe's true backstory is known to anyone living, he is in actuality the only mortal survivor of the original race of vampires that gave rise to the Blood Gods; surviving his immortal kin's predation during the Blood War only by begging for the protection of Lore, he exists in the Worldshadow in service to the god who continues to grant him sanctuary. Since then his identity has remained something of a secret, with neither Lore nor the Scribe offering any information to others as to his true, ancient nature. Most assume him to be the first timewalker of Lore due to the fact that no other timewalker remembers a time without him. It's not known whether his record-keeping is his service to the god or the reason he made his pact, but it's understood that he enjoys Lore's favor due to the fact that his sanctum exists in a world where very little else is permitted to alter the unchanging landscape. Historically, the Scribe is a source of answers and knowledge that has otherwise been lost to the passage of time. Alongside the timewalkers, a rare few have been permitted entry to the god's realm specifically to ask his counsel; the Scribe himself seems to retain knowledge of all things he's written, making him crucial to accessing the vast quantity of recorded material. In the recent past, he helped orchestrate the rediscovery of the naga after over a millenia of isolation, the forging of a pact between the Godking Karkess and the Reaper Artemis Hunter, and the reappearance of the Lost Fleet to aid in the Second Siege of Darkmere.Important Relationships
