The Kingdom Spirits

The Kingdom Spirits are a trio of unique spirit beings whose power approaches the level of godhood. Stormcrow and Sunbird are the original spirits, sisters and balanced counterparts to one another, with a third spirit called Cormorant who serves as their consort. The Kingdom Spirits are only found in an isolated shard known as the Kingdom, which differs greatly from the rest of Genesis and has no knowledge of the true gods.

Stormcrow

The spirit of winter winds and the lifegiving storms that bring rain to the Kingdom. She embodies strength, wisdom, and discipline, and is cool and reserved in a way that balances the capricious emotions of her younger sister. Her eyes are turned outward to the Kingdom's borders, and she serves as the protector who circles the land in mists to keep them safe.   Stormcrow is most often depicted as a young woman with tanned skin and brown hair. She wears dark tones of blue, gray, and purple to reflect the colors of stormclouds, shirtless under a mantled cloak and with a chain-ladened sash around her waist. Her feathered wings are a dark purple-gray, and are described as 'streaked with lightning' which is commonly depicted by the second and third primary feathers on either wing being colored pure white. She's always shown with a serious face and eyes with dark sclera and a pupil-less white iris. Images of Stormcrow almost universally also include her sister, Sunbird, but she's also sometimes shown alongside their consort and lover Cormorant.

Sunbird

The spirit of summer sun and the fires of creation and destruction. She embodies youth, innocence, passion, and mercurial emotion, contagious in her joy but terrible in her rage in a way that needs to be tempered by her elder sister. Her eyes are turned inward to the Kingdom's heart, and she serves as the nurturer whose happiness and drive brings life to the land.   Sunbird is most often depicted as a young woman with sun-golden skin and long hair that fades from red at the base to an increasingly pale blonde at the tips. She wears a halter-styled dress in the same colors of the sun and earrings made of faceted drops of citrine. Sunbird is described as having 'flame-kissed wings', which is sometimes shown as wings literally formed of fire but is more commonly bird wings in the same colors as her hair and general attire. She's always shown with strong emotion on her face, whether joy or anger, and has eyes with yellow-orange sclera and a pupil-less pale iris. Images of Sunbird almost universally include her sister, Stormcrow.

Cormorant

Born outside the bounds of the Kingdom, Cormorant was originally known as Korian Moran and was a talented elven archmage. Washed ashore in the Kingdom by a twist of fate, he was taken in by the twin spirits and eventually gave his life in defense of the land and its people before being given new life as the immortal being known as the Cormorant. Now he serves as consort and lover to Stormcrow and Sunbird, as well as serving as a bridge between them and the mortal people who he understands far better than they are capable of. He walks among the mortal inhabitants of the Kingdom to listen to their needs and fears, as well as crossing the land each spring and fall to wake each sister from their slumber in turn.   Cormorant is depicted as an elven man, handsome despite clearly showing the advanced age at which he died. He has relatively pale skin and ashen hair woven with iridescent cormorant feathers, and wears layered dark green robes whose sleeves and various hems are cut into the shapes of feathers. He can be shown with or without iridescent green-black feathered wings. Depictions of Cormorant typically show him holding a staff supporting a glowing orb held in a woven net, which will often be emitting a stylized stream of light.

Worship Practices and Holy Days

Within the Kingdom's elaborate and intrinsic structure of dominance, the spirits are the highest power. There's very little in the way of formal prayer, but it's common for the people to spontaneously offer thanks or pleas for their aid; the spirits are considered the creators of the Kingdom's people, and they're greatly loved as their protectors and loving caretakers. Depictions of the spirits are widespread, and they're thought to be a constant presence in mortal lives.   The spirits are honored on the solstices and equinoxes, with Stormcrow most celebrated on the Winter Solstice and Sunbird on the Summer Solstice. Cormorant's presence is thought to be most powerful on the equinoxes when he travels the land from one end to the other, waking one sister as the other falls into sleep for her season; the aurora is seen vividly on these nights and is thought to be the guiding light of Cormorant's lantern. These days are festivals and a time for celebration, where the great houses of the Kingdom will put on elaborate gatherings for all those who live within their territories.
