Hitadelphia Agriculture

The Desert city of Hitadelphia was created near a hostile water source in the middle of a desert, so food is hard to come by. This hasn't hindered the city at all though. Through sheer ingenuity, many breakthroughs have been made in farming technology. Rapid advances in the breeding of livestock have created tremendous results with only a few minor setbacks here and there. Cows and pigs can easily withstand the sweltering heat and exposure of the daytime sun and also the chilling darkness of the nights with minimal modifications to traditional farming methods. This has lead to the city being well known for its exotic and delicious selection of meats.   The extreme conditions have also failed to put a damper on the cultivation efforts either. To this day there are 28 different species of cactus that are grown and harvested for a multitude of uses. Efforts have been so successful that there is often more demand from establishments for cactus juice than for beer. There is a down side to this too, as many an experimental blend of cactus juice can have unforeseen side effects, which has lead to underground sales of the quenchiest of cactus juices on the black market.   Cactus isn't the only thing that grows here though! With a bit of elbow grease (and magic) the land has been made hospitable for unique variants of many common plants and vegetables. The desert squash is quite popular as a decoration due to its grand appearance and its high durability, while also making delectable pies.   There are quite a few risks of farming in the desert though. Bulette extermination is a common job in these parts as working the desert soil is bound to attract them too close for comfort. The local sea life is also not fond of irrigation. They have a strong hatred for land life and feel that anyone stealing their water should be dealt with severely, but they're not much of a fight on land, especially not in a desert, so as long as pets and children are taught to keep their distance from the water they should be safe.
