The nature of magic

Magic is the expression of sentient desire, as extended to the world around us. Our desire to understand creates cognition, the way we see the world. That then creates magic around us to fit those perceptions and desires, at times giving them independant life.
All magic arts build on this principle, each in their own way, taking the reality and shaping it with their cognitions. Magical creatures are, as such created by sentient perception of them, their very being can at times be maluable and subject to change with their own perception and that of their surroundings.
Merlinian magic takes the magic that constitutes reality and shapes it delicately and precisely. Through ancient rituals and runes, reminicent of circular glass murals, the merlinian mage crafts the pathways in order to make reality change in accordance to their will. The crafted rune forces the magic around to reform to a new reality, instilling in it the order which a merlinian desires to create.
Other practitioners of magic, who are more in tune with the natural magics of the world tend to request rathar then demand the world's co operation. as such, shamans of the foilekokra tribe and other simillar spiritual societies, beseach the spirits, influencing them by humbling requesting for the change they wish to see in the world.
Wild magical creatures are themselves made of that magic. They are shaped by the conciousnesses around them, and when they are sentient, by their own will. If a person precieves a magical creature as hostile, the very rules of the universe will push that creature towards hostility, if they are an embodyment of an idea, that idea will be their whole being, and it's changing meanings and position in a society might also cause tangible changes to the creature. During ancient times, the Arch-Fey was transformed with accordance to the perception of nature, at times wise and mysterious, at others a snarling bloodthirsty monster and when merlin and arthur vowed to bind magic, as an active adversary and rival to their goals.
Different ways of thinking can effect the way magic operates, thus different cultures will have different magical techniques, and may have a hard time adjusting to magic that isn't native to them. Due to it's universality magic existed to a certain extent in the cultures of the Swarga Lorka galaxy, where alien concepts and perception led to different incarnation of magics. unique to those long destroyed worlds. An example can be seen with the Alfego, who due to their unleniar perception of time conduct their magic with a clear destination, but often no solid plan for arriving at it, allowing the universe to take it's course.
