Atman
An atman is a special device, used by the coalition and entrusted to Manu the warden, each Atman contains within it the prerecorded conciousness of an important sage from it's respective alien species, these sages range from great scholars to warlords adept at the art of their people's war, but all hold the same goal, to teach and revive the traditions and histories of their people instilling them with the human lineages that will bring them back from extinction.
An atman resembles a small tear of amber with complex circuts within, it's size ranges from a pin head to a wallnut, usually kept on a chain or bracelet and telepathically linked with it's wearer.
A man or woman who accepts an Atman is genetically imbued with the DNA of the species tha they are to inherit and given the atman that serves as both database and mentor.
The genetic changes are inheretable, creating a new xenolineage once acquired.
there are hundreds of different Atmans, most of which were distributed through the years with the explicit expectation from a recipient to carry out their mission of preserving the lost culture. while Manu rarely made mistakes in judging character, some carriers have become overwhelmed through the years, eschewing their responsibillities. Now a days an atman can be sold on the black market for a sizable fortune, however these are rare cases, as manu vets the canidates carefully, and hiding foul intentions from a powerfull telepath is not an easy task.
During the early days of manu's presence on earth, his human interpertor Aarush parekh had used their connection to gain india's independance from the british empire, he had done so by signing a contract allowing the british exclusive access to 20% of all atmans, to use in it's special forces and millitary. While the contract states that such agents would be required to continue their xenolineages and pass on their teachings simillar to any other canidate, most agents fitted with an atman either do not retire (dying on the job) or simply ignore their responsibilities, as such a splinter group within the glactic heritage foundation had started demanding that action be taken against the british goverment to recover these atmans.
With the various genetic alterations, as well as some of the extinct societies having their own cultural views of heroism, many members of xenolineages have taken up the mask to become both heores and villians on earth, carrying out their deeds often to carry out their otherworldly heratige.
The origin of the Atman itself are shrouded in mystery, the technology was brought by one of the coalition's scientists in it's most dire hour, who refused to disclose the process of how they were created, some speculated that the atmans belonged to some ancient civilization which spanned the Swarga Lorka galaxy, or perhaps made by a secret think tank of inner circle members of the coalition, since it integrates manny principles of both science and magics from across the galaxy.
Recently through a mishap a copy of orion lunt's conciousness had been copied onto the existing atman of the Alvir sage dart'z, the csause or how it happened are still unknown.

Mechanics & Inner Workings
No earth scientists have managed to figure out the inner workings of an Atnam, partly thanks to it's complex, neuron like circutry and partly due to a strict ban of invasive reaserch of them by most goverments, those who have attempted to research illigaly obtained atmans, have found limited success as the machanoarcane nature of the device is based on magical traditions mostly unknown on earth.
What is known from reports from some of the sages living within the atmans is that the sage's conciousness was copied into the device in a complex process which involved both thourough brain scans and ritualistic magics of several types, and that it was done in the final days of the coalition as a last resort while the black sun army closed in on the final few struggling planets.

Significance
Each of the Atmans contain the living memories of an entire race, meant to keep their traditions and knowledge alive. They are also often paired with genetic alterations meant to create a xenolineage.
