Brian the Great Dragon

Summary

Brian the Dragon was an immensely old and powerful wyrm who generally didn't bother anyone and slept like a cat in his hold high in the Axereach Peaks. He hasn't been seen since the end of Gedrian's reign, but his followers, The Order of the Sky , assume that he still reigns in the heavens.

Historical Basis

Even though the War of the Dragons had ended at this point one dragon who was called by many Brian still remained unchallenged. Because of his immense power he attracted many followers who helped spread his chaos over the land ruled by humans (The Dwarves bribed him to go away.), though they claimed that it was his judgement against humanity. This of course angered many rulers including Frederan Gedrian who was at the time the Prince of the Kingdom of Northod. Thus, he set out to conquer the world in an attempt to stop Brian. At first he succeeded, but ultimately he fell not to Brian, but to his followers.

Spread

The tales of Brian spread like wildfire, figuratively and literally.

Variations & Mutation

In some cultures Brian is seen as the creator of all of Gedrian as they say he is the oldest dragon besides his mother and in other cultures like the orcs he is seen as a mighty warrior. The reason for this is that Magic in Gedrian comes from the sky and most dragons are very powerful in the ways of magic.

Cultural Reception

In places such as Belzar, the home of the dragons, Brian's tale is the quintessential tale of judgement on their wrongdoings and some go as far as to worship him. In places like Ornell or Lavier, where the dragon never ventured to, he is regarded as a myth.

In Literature

The various legends concerning Brian the Dragon were recorded in many records, but it wasn't until 427 C.G that the myths were compiled into one manuscript called The Myths of Brian written by a member of the Order of the Sky named Torris Dorian.

In Art

The mythical sword Gronedsong is credited to being forged in Brian's breath with the help of the renowned weapon smith Calt Hemlar.
