The Land of Light

LoL

Phase 2

The Land of Light has seen similar growth since the installation of the first Altar. Dwarf buffalo were quickly domesticated – efforts have been made towards the massive ground sloths, but their long reproductive cycles have made this difficult. The flying foxes are also on their way to domestication! The first breeding pair was brought to the island by an older woman named Yena. Though she had long been considered a pillar of the community – a quiet, wise, and loving mother – no one really expected her to take off in a small boat to catch a mythical creature at her age. Certainly no one expected her to return.   And yet the stories say she flew in on the back of one of the giant bats and the Radiance with her on the other; that it was no coincidence that the night she returned, her granddaughter was born with eyes that mirrored the moon. Though she still lives, word has spread throughout the fledgling communities quickly and she is now regarded by many as a nigh-mythic figure – something she has used to encourage others to live their lives to the fullest and chase their own bliss.

Phase 3

Between Yena's emphasis on freedom of belief, dangers of the jungle, and the nature of Warlocks, the concept of "worship of the Radiance" has taken a number of new forms. Every so often a new soul is chosen by the Radiance – they and a number of others (most often deviants or generally unwanted sorts) are sent into the harsh and uncaring unknown to build an altar and, around it, a new settlement. While the belief that develops there is most often that of their parent settlement, it is not uncommon for it to deviate quite aggressively. The island, the western settlement, and the eastern settlement have all coalesced into their own separate governments.

The Phoenix Queen's Gift

"For the Land of Light, my gift is that every two years, during the largest meteor shower visible from that period, one "star" veers down as a meteor and, before impact, explodes into a burst of fireworks before sending a single small Star-Stone floating down. Star-stones are silver-white orbs of cool metal that shine constantly with a moderate amount of light. Star stones constantly exude light (cannot be turned off), are incredibly difficult to break (strong as diamond), and impossible to forge. If placed in a fire, starstone intensifies the heat of the flame the longer it is inside the forge or flame (though it never becomes hot itself, it is always cool to the touch). If someone, somehow, for some reason, eats the starstone, they find it does not kill them, but instead gives them the ability to blast harmless light from their eyes (at will, like flashlights)- but comes at the cost of them losing their weight while sleeping, as their body drifts towards the night sky (anyone who hits the stratosphere becomes a ghostly spirit of starlight who manifests only during those meteor shower nights, and cannot interact with physical things- like a ghost)"
