Phoenix

The classic firebird, which I intend to introduce dramatically and personally later on. Phoenixes have a lifespan of 500 years, and can grow to immense sizes with sufficient food and time (from eagles to giant eagles in size). Phoenixes reproduce in large nests but only once every two hundred years. Phoenixes can die once- when this occurs, they explode and then reform even stronger and smarter. First life phoenixes are crow-smart; second life phoenixes are nigh-sapient.  Phoenixes are capable of arcane magic naturally and can detect ill intent as well as crimes (torture, murder, high crimes of that sort- but above all, the killing of a phoenix can always be detected).
The first phoenix was granted to Kheta, first follower of the Phoenix Queen.

Genetics and Reproduction

In order to reproduce, a phoenix must have nested in one place for at least 50 years, causing the nest area to slowly lift off the ground and drift into the sky- a proper sky-nest is needed for successful laying of eggs or raising of young.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Phoenixes can eat insects and animals like a hawk, though they get extreme nutrition and joy from cinnamon bark. They can also absorb open flame or lightning as food. A phoenix that eats mostly mundane food looks like a majestic bird of prey of brilliant vermillion; one that eats fire or lightning looks elemental, crackling with their food source.
