Phase 2
Exactly how the Cryptid Continent is faring depends on exactly who you are at the moment. Many larparim live in matriarchal nomadic bands that circle the landmass with the seasons: the summer begins at the northern river, spring at the east, winter at the south, and autumn at the west. Summer and spring are spent in the subtropical regions, as they've found it to be the perfect place and time to gather nectar from the purple sunflowers. As they begin to wilt and die in the autumn, their role as food is supplanted by controlled burns in the chaparral regions. The nature of the flowers has meant that the concept of "family" has become a rather fluid thing, especially as the population has begun to swell dramatically. Females tend to leave their band during their first pregnancy and give birth in another friendly band, where the child is communally raised and where the mother will often remain for the rest of her life. Some strixeri run counterclockwise to the larparim bands, meeting at the winter and summer solstices to trade and mingle. The base population's rather chaotic state of existence has led to a number of strixeri and larparim to seek refuge on the mountain; these societies were largely started by early couples who sought to stay together, but have since blossomed into fully-fledged villages and cities. The mole men, meanwhile, have remained almost entirely ignorant of these developments. One or two groups have likely made contact with the more recent mountainside settlers and begun to trade with one another.Fauna & Flora
