Wolf People Species in Gates of Eternity | World Anvil

Wolf People

The so called wolf-morph is one of two most common beastmen morphs, that together make for majority of beastmen population in the world. Due to how history of their specie went there tend to be a notable gender disparity among them, with males making for a majority (which is one of the reason why so many of them resorts to becoming a variety of pirates and raiders... or just emigrates).   They were created by the mix between old Meta-Beastmen and simple wolves, through some sort of ancient rituals, now sadly forgotten. It is unknown why they were actually one of the most common morph chosen by now extinct proto-beastmen.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Humanoid, with two hands, two legs and head. They are, however, heavily dependent in terms of their looks at how far their morph settled in. On one extreme we have almost normal humans with only some outward characteristics of the wolf - like ears (they tend to be the sort of a marker of a morph), slight changes to teeth, some improvement to senses. On the other extreme, there are practically antropomorphised wolves, with their humanoid posture (and intelligence) being their only major difference from common wolves.

Genetics and Reproduction

With other beastmen regardless of their subspecie. Subspecie inheritance is linked to gender. Pregnancy circa nine months long, not really different than humans (with exception of slightly increased chance for multiple pregnancies). They are also notably more resistant to most typical genetic defects, but the difference is at best a ten percent or so.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Most of them lives on Lana, but there is a notable number of them living as either menial slaves or peasants in Karadia.   Notable population of wolf-morph beastmen can be encountered in northwestern Arrica and in Vestiria. Second in number are wolfmen population in Bharata Kanda and various less developed areas especially in Native Sea and Northern Sea.

Average Intelligence

Wolfmen suffer from a sort of pack dominant mentality. When more than one groups for longer than short while, they will almost always bash their heads for the dominant position (sometimes refered to as alpha, especially in case of more permanent groups). They are simply biologically incapable of equality.   The alpha actually doesn't have to be a beastman. Wolfmen often make a majority of regular troops of various beastman warlords (mostly coming from apex morphs), whom they follow in a surpsingly unquestioned way due to respect to their marial prowess. This includes even those that are not combatants - pack mentality is quite literally what keeps their societies together.   The problem occurs when the alpha somehow loses his (or her - there are no real difference in that matter) authority. When that happens, saying that wolf-morphs become unruly would be an understatement. Their population in Imperium of Karadia is notorious for social unrest in times of general crisis.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Improved nightvision and smell, the exact scale of improvement however is heavily dependant on many factors. All of them are better than normal humans in both areas, however they can also be improved even almost to the point of how good they are among wolves.   Tend to be equally active in night and day, their hours of activity depending mostly on the society they live in.
