Low Elves Species in Gates of Eternity | World Anvil

Low Elves

The so called low elves are an aftermath of mixing blood of various elven subspecies due to their own specific genetics and, most likely, either xyls lack of knowledge about genmaturgy or some deeper scheme that civilization of today's yet to discover. They occur naturally in mixed communities, especially in the areas of Karadia where elves were defeated and enslaved by humans.   In times of @Xylian Dominion low elves were something unknown, a rare and easily noticable genetically deficient effects of forbidden mixing between subspecies, which at best ended with child and their parents executed. Due to xyls pressure on genetic purity, they weren't really possible to encounter.   This changed after humans invaded, with most of the elven population decimated, the rest were mostly enslaved. While in areas more or less unified in terms of species inhabiting them – for example Northern Arrica – the low elves problem didn't occur, in areas where at least elven subspecies coexisted it was much different. With elves living under human law, more and more of them ended up mixing blood, causing an increase in terms of the crossbreeds, so called low elves.   Due to being most assimilated elven subspecie, most of their more 'special' kin doesn't even consider them elves, treating them more like a special type of humans, one whose existence threatens them with longterm extinction due to interbreeding and generally shuns them.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Typical humanoids. Two hands, two legs, one head. Unlike other elves they are mostly human-like in terms of anatomy, overtime losing their special traits and devolving to form much more similar to their genetic genetic ancestors from times before they were made into elves.

Biological Traits

Unlike the rest of the elves, low elves aren't dependant on their level of blood purity – simply because they are what is created when blood purity falls dangerously low. They simply cannot degrade more, and having them lifted up is most unlikely, with next to no elven group willing to undertake a risk of their own genetic degradation by interbreeding with them.

Genetics and Reproduction

Their reproduction is a mix between human and elves. Can have children only with other elves, ogres, and very magical beings – for example shapeshifters and high dragons. Pregnancy, however, is typically human, normally taking up to 9 months.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Lack of facial hair with exception of eyebrows. Their skin tends to feel and look rather soft and delicate. Hair and eyes most diverse, depending on their genetic heritage.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

One can meet low elves in a variety of places, but especially in Visenia, Itavia, Itirria, Nikopol and Hellana, in most of this places being a part of low strata of society, for example peasants and slaves. Rather rarely encountered in places of power, although it isn't unheard of.

Civilization and Culture

Courtship Ideals

Identify to the ideals of the local societies they are a part of. Rarely they do retain some sort of unique characteristics, most of them dying out together with their descent into lowelves cooped with the destruction of their civilization.
