Kashya the Dragonslayer Character in Gates of Eternity | World Anvil

Kashya the Dragonslayer

Dark One Kashya (a.k.a. The Dragonslayer)

Dark Ones are terrifying, eldritch entities born from massive ammounts of concentrated negative mental energy. To be created they require not only simple negative thoughts, but almost complete lack of anything even remotely considered good in region where they gestalt. As a comparison, the German death camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau - with several important underlying laws of reality sewn differently - would be capable of spawning a Dark One of relatively average power, at least compared to truly powerful champions of Darkness.   As the Dark One reaches infancy, it begins to influence the Light, causing sudden spike in negative thoughts, further increasing ammount and quality of atrocities commited, which further fuels its growth and improves its 'habitat' to suit its needs more. Such being can't be considered evil, as it transcends the meaning of this word. They aren't evil, they are simply biologically devoid of 'good', simply incapable of even understanding concepts like love or mercy. Prior to their 'birth' they aren't even sentient, changing mortals into murderous lunatics simply by 'being'.   In short, they are misery, hatred, terror and pain made material. Material that exists simultaneously in Light and Dark, infecting both physical and mental world with madness.

Personal history

It can only be guessed what attrocities were commited in the world that spawned Kashya the Dragonslayer - since she (if concepts of gender can be even attributed to such being) is not of this world. She was a vanguard of invasion, that came thousands years too early and ended up assaulting the strongest and most profilic civilization to ever exist upon Gates of Eternity - the First Empire. And nearly succeeded.   It required the sacrifice of The Eldest and most of ancient dragons - together with majority of their armed forces - to stop Kashya's rampage. As she marched against them, the whole cities - and even whole continents - died or fell insane, as the dragons that could protect them from debilitating effect of Kashya's existence were recalled to join the greatest army ever assembled by First Empire.   During the battle thousands upon thousands of soldiers died simply to divert her attention for a while. Waves upon waves of ancient dragons - some of them kilometers in lenght and with power making each of them a deity in itself - charged her, only to be shot down from a sky, simply to drain her of power. Finally, an Eldest himself arrived, his size dwarfing even the biggest of his progeny with his wing blows akin to hurricane, the strongest being to ever exist in the Light.   In the end, Eldest succeeded in defeating Kashya, annihilating majority of her being, while imprisoning what remained deep beneath the ground, in what is now southern Itavia. He, however, paid for this with his life, falling from the skies in today's eastern Karathia. A part of her survived, however some of Eldest progeny decided to improve the cage they were trapped in by connecting them to the Dark and making the positive emotions flee through it permanently. This forceful brainwash, over thousands of years partially reformed her nature, turning these remnants into being that could understand positive emotions... and even feel some of them.   Then the Imperium of Karadia was created, with its capital - through a meddling influence of some of its gods - placed directly atop the 'grave' of Kashya. Soon the Imperium uncovered her - with its deities preventing Kashya from automatically flatlining brain activity of every person within at least a thousand kilometer radius simply by existing.   Soon she was repurposed as an eternal guardian of the Vault, a lowest level of Great Library, filled with most terrifying knowledge the Empire manage to gather. With most of her being hidden even deeper, with only the smallest part of Kashya physically manifested within the Vault that she now roams, with all intruders meeting the fate that's better left unspoken.

Employment

Eternal Guardian of the Imperial Library's Vault.

Morality & Philosophy

Bounds that ancient dragons and imperial gods put on her, make her completely incapable of hurting any person that is actually allowed to enter the Vault... however it is unlike that she would actually do that even without them in place. With most of her true being still trapped beneath the Vault (with overwhelming majority of her 'Darkness'), the small part that haunts the Vault is composed mostly of things that was brainwashed into her by ancient dragons, thus she remains a relatively peaceful and helpful being, serving not only as a guardian but also as a chief bibliothecary of Vault.

Social

Religious Views

Considered by the members of Library (those that are aware of her existence) as a vassal deity of Destiny, imperial goddess of magic and knowledge, dedicated to the knowledge most blasphemous and terrible. This makes her a patron deity of those parts of doom magic that are allowed to use in Empire, however with her nature as a Dark One she can't be considered as a deity in common sense.   It is unknown if she posseses any religious views of her own.

Social Aptitude

Prefers to avoid humans, since she seems to be severely distressed by the risk that she could somehow hurt them. When required to help a person searching for some books, she helps him/her as good as she could, however while keeping distance.

Speech

Tends to speak silently, as if slightly shy. Her voice tone has something in it that fills average people with faint sense of dread.
