Amalthians Species in Gates of Eternity | World Anvil

Amalthians

Amalthians are born on a rare occasions when Watchers or, extremely rarely, any other eldritch-type daemon mates with mortal species, especially humans (but also, in rarer cases, elves and other species). This happens infrequently and has only two main reasons. First are Pandaemonium orders - with such childs in most cases destined to become an important cult leaders or even Chosen Ones/Nameless Lords themselves. They are a reason why Amalthians tend to be distrusted as a whole, since they are overrepresented among the civilizations worst enemies.   There are also those Watchers that deserted from Pandaemonium armies. Not many does that, but they are some who decided that they are not going to remain an agent of chaos and doom in the world. They are human enough to be able to do that, at least mostly. Such daemons sometimes have children with mortals, thus giving birth to an amalthian, although it is rare. Those amalthians that come from such relationships are welcomed in Imperial Magic Guild due to their unique skills and traits.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Normal humanoids. Tend to be tall, with pale skin, black hair and black, red or violet eyes.

Biological Traits

All amalthians have an innate talent towards black magic and doom magic as a general. Together with their ability to see through illusions and detect (which helps in manipulating) magic makes them naturally talented mages.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

As most of half-daemons, they are only few of them. There are no bigger groups of amalthians in the wild, meaning that they are pretty much forced to crossbreed with normal mortals, making their uniqueness fade after one or two generations.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

While amalthians do not possess a supernatural vision of Watchers and other daemons of Pandaemonium, they do have extremely sharp senses when it comes to magic. Especially their sight allows them to see through illusions and detect even faintest signs of magic. Their non-supernatural sight is enhanced as well, with all amalthians having truly excellent vision.   They are also living detectors of elritch powers. They can 'sniff' an eldritch daemon from afar, being very useful in counter-Pandaemonium actions.
