Adamantite Material in Gates of Eternity | World Anvil

Adamantite

Adamantite is counted among the rare metals, ones that exist in the nature but are hard to access and because of that they are of great value for any state and organization. It is however one of the few rare metals that are actually mined en masse, at least in these few locations where there is a significant ammount of it to be found underground.   It is also one of the main reasons for military and economy might fo the Labirynth states, because of being found almost exclusively there. Its mines, however, are always deep, meaning that mining it is always dangerous. It is almost never found above the level of the Karathian Sea, with the sole exception being environment heavily tainted with magic (namely magical anomalies, with the only surface mines known to possess significant ammount of them being those in Valley of Ashes.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Deep purple coloured metal. Identifying it is very easy due to its extreme weight and weak magic suppression. Before smelting its ore is, curiously, aquamarine in colour and only after purifying in a smeltery it takes its 'true' colour.

Physical & Chemical Properties

High weight caused by very high density (it is actually heavier than lead and, in fact, is considered a heavy metal albeit without the associated toxicity) and the fact that it suppresses magic in the vicinity. It isn't direct magic annihilation as in case of Antegnite, instead the more it is the less powerful magic that occurs in the area surrounding it. The range of the effects depends on the ammount of the metal, and works even in case of ores (magic suppression effect is often used in finding veins of adamantite).

Geology & Geography

Only deep enough, since it seems to be formed by rocks spending millenia under heavy pressure and in >70C. Because of that it's normally found either in the Labirynth or in magical anomalies, where the sheer amount of magic overwrites this rule.

Origin & Source

The adamantite-bearing rock is called adamandrite and is not only tough, but also keeps it magic-supression effect. Because of that it is sometimes digged and used to construct walls of buildings that are supposed to be extremely resilient against magic. It had a deep aquamarine tint and is sometimes used for (insanely) valuable sculptures, due to its interesting colour and resilience.

History & Usage

Everyday use

In most cases, it is used to produce high value weaponry and armors, also for alloy production. It is however rare, and is almost always used to produce expensive things in small number. It is one of the many reasons why Imperium of Karadia continues to use mines in Valley of Ashes - so it has adamantite to sell.

Refinement

Adamandrite has to be smelted to gain adamantite. Due to high costs of it, only a limited number of metalworks is capable of refining it.

Distribution

Trade & Market

A luxury material. Most of it ends up sold regularlyon auctions by Imperial Ministry of Industry, which in turns either mines it directly (in Valley of Ashes or buys it from imperial vassal states in the Labirynth.
