Dwarves

Hailing from the depths of Great Oghan, dwarves are a hardy and industrious folk. They are renowned miners, metal workers, brewers, and bankers. Though they have little interest in magic, they help the efforts of Thaumaturgy with their smithies and workshops, manufacturing invaluable devices for the Academy.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Dwarves are a short, stout race. Their muscles and skin are tougher and denser than those of other races, and their hair is metallic. Even dwarven females grow grand, luscious beards.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Dwarven bodies are themselves rich in metals. By the time they reach adulthood their hair turns metallic. They weave strands of magnetite into their beards, which, if done correctly, allows them to sense metals around them.

Civilization and Culture

History

Dwarves are classified as a Thaumic race. They come from the Great Oghan, a table mountain north of Valessia, named after their god Oghan. They prefer to keep to their own communities and homes.
As Great Oghan lies between Valessia and Elysium, dwarves came were the first to come into contact with both humans and quarterlings. They traded and helped the other races, though it wasn't until humans crossed Great Oghan into Valessia and befriended the quarterlings that dwarves considered an alliance with either of them. Soon after, however, the dwarf-human city Ruiin was founded and the Dwarf-Human-Quarterling Alliance was established.
From then, dwarves were the heart of the Alliance industry, supplying metals, goog juice, and contributing with their metalworking and other craftsmanship. Their tunnels inside Great Oghan also made for great trading routes, and the Oghan Bank was the centre of trade.
During the Thaumic War dwarves were the main manufacturers of Thaumic weaponry for the Alliance.
After the formation of the Academy they remain at their post as miners, craftsmen, and bankers, though it is now the Academy Houses Grit and Iron Dust that oversee these functions.
