Humans (Specie)

Naming Traditions

Unlike other creatures, Humans do not have individually unique names. Instead their naming system is based on their role in society and the location where they act that role.   For example, a Human who does blacksmithing will be known as "Blacksmith" within their community. If there are multiple blacksmiths in this community, they will add details to distinguish each other, such as "North Blacksmith" or "River Blacksmith". If this Human is outside of their community, they will include their origin as well. In this example, it may be "River Blacksmith of Sandy Marsh". Their locational names may change based on where they currently are, but some keep their original locational name as a way to easily distinguish from other Humans in the new community they are in.   A Human's name can also change should their role in Human society change. Naturally a Human child growing into an adult will receive a name other than "Child". Other examples could be a change in occupation (for example, Trader to Market Keeper), or change in that Human's position (for example, Priest to the Grace), or change in their societal position (for example, Poor to Rich).   There are a group of Humans who is changing this naming tradition, however. These rogue Humans, while they also name themselves after their role and position, also use ideology in their name. Examples include Freedom, Liberty, Strong, and such.
