Five-Cloud Blade

The Five-Cloud Blade, Blade of Five Weathers, or the Weathering Blade, is one of the 12 holy items of the Gerorethian kingdoms. A heavily curved, single edged blade, coming in at 10ft long (blade 8ft, handle 2ft), the Five-Cloud Blade is hefty, even for most geroreth. The blade was originally found by Ailika Teroda, a ruler of the Igerilbaen dynasty. While already a formidable and powerful weapon, the blades main capabilities are owed to the five strong Belgaraen sealed inside, which give the blade five unique states, allowing the user to perform various powerful techniques.
Following the Blandil war which occurred from 8500-8567 GC, five great Belgaraen were formed, supposedly generated by disruptions in the local environment, which the use of powerful magic in the war caused. These Belgaraen remained unknown and unidentified until c. 8600, during the Shalhii Incident in the southern lands of the Igerilbaen dynasty, in which they destroyed the city of Shalhii, and much of the surrounding area. Due to their weather based powers, the five Belgaraen were named Sintil of the Lightning, Halum of the Winds, Ronai of the Rain, Gerfain of the Firestorm, and Turos of the Black Fog, collectively being referred to as the Five Weathers. The Shalhii Incident began the War of the Weathers, and the following attacks destroyed much of the country, with even whole armies unable to stop one of the Belgaraen.
The War of the Weathers continued for around a year, before the ruler of the Igerilbaen dynasty at the time, Ailika Teroda, is said to have been given a vision by Geramel, of a great blade that they could use to defeat the Five Weathers. Ailika Teroda searched for a month non-stop for the blade, finding it at last where the war started, in the area that was once the city of Shalhii. The blade is said to have emenated a blinding light, and supposedly blew back everyone who came close to it with an extremely strong wind, all except for Ailika Teroda. Grasping the blade's handle, Ailika Teroda is said to have a vision of Geramel, guiding him how to use the blade, and informing them of the weapons great sealing abilities. It is also said, however, that in order to truly wield the blade, they had to sacrifice all forms their magic.
With the blade in hand, Ailika Teroda had all their remaining soldiers follow them to Balentier, one of the kingdom's last standing cities, and prepare for battle against the Five Weathers. It is said that the five Belgaraen arrived soon after, and Ailika Teroda approached them alone. The Five Weathers hurled attack after attack at the ruler, but each was absorbed into the mighty blade they held in hand. In shock and anger, the five of them poured all of their power into their attacks, rushing Ailika Teroda. For many hours the six of them fought, not backing down. Eventually, the magic of the Five Weathers dissipated, and Ailika Teroda stood alone, the new Five-Cloud Blade held high in victory. Ailika Teroda's body was covered in scars and horrible wounds, but they would survive the encounter, though dying a few short years later from the complications the wounds caused.
From there, the blade would be passed to each new ruler, each one infusing the blade with their power in order to wield it, with regular rituals performed to keep the Five Weathers sealed, as well. This would give the rulers of the Igerilbaen dynasty great power for many years, but tranferring their power would give them exceptionally short lives for Geroreth, with users dying quickly if they could not come into contact with the sword on a regular basis. Control of the blade and respect by the Belgaraen within would eventually become a test and mark of worthiness to rule, though the Igerilbaen dynasty would eventually fall. After the dynasty fell, the Five-Cloud Blade would trade hands for many years, being used by a variety of people, not just rulers. It currently resides in the north of the country of Ilbis, which covers the southern part of the territory that the Igerilbaen dynasty once held, including the rebuilt city of Shalhii.
Each of the Five Weathers has a symbol inscribed on the base of the Five Clolud Blade, with a symbol of each of the dozens of wielders decorating the rest of the blade, with a great red line running along the back, symbolizing Ailika Teroda. Some notable users of the Five-Cloud Blade, other than Ailika Teroda themself, include:

    • Halan Granil, a child of the Ilbis royal family, and a wielder of the Fathomless Cloth.

The Five-Cloud Blade's abilities rely on summoning the power of the Five Weathers, and the magical power of past users. These abilities are used by invoking the names of the Five Weathers, and can be used in tandem with each other. Many of these abilities require many years of intense training to properly master, and many of the recorded users have never been able to fully use all of the known abilities. Named abilities of the Five-Cloud Blade include:

    • Sintil: Blitz, a staggeringly fast attack that effectively turns the user into lightning. Thunderclap, which couples whirring electricity into the blade's sheath, which is released in the area around the blade and sheath, upon fully sheathing the blade. Surge, which generates a violent elctrical current upon the blade itself.
    • Halum: Tempest, generates fiercly stong wind for up to a mile around the user, lifting and buffeting anything not within a five-foot radius. Zephyr, a slashing ability that creates a fierce wind focused on the blade, and sends it out when the sword is slashed with.
    • Ronai: Torrent, a pelting water based attack. Squall, a defensive ability that surrounds the user in a whirlwind of water. Flood: Releases a chaotic wave from the blade, flooding the area around the user. Quench: Covers the blade in a field of water. Thirst: Absorbs any water that the blade comes into contact with, which must be released, or it will forbily come out at its limit.
    • Gerfain: Flare, a simple coating of the blade in fire. Inferno, a cleaving attack that incinerates anything cut by the blade. Pyre, induces heat within the blade, focused to the point that the blade can cut through anything it touches. Embers, flings fire from the blade, scattering it wildly and randomly in the area around the user.
    • Turos: Black: Covers a mile wide area, surrounding the user in a thick, black fog, obscuring them, but still allowing them to see.
A variety of abilities also exist that are related to the abilities of past users, though the exact details of this are only known by wielders of the Blade. These abilities, like those of the Five Weathers, include inducing or summoning the power of the individual by calling their name. A joint attack, using the power of all previous users, called Open Sky, has been recorded, though in the single instance of its use, its power was so deadly as to kill the user and destroy everything in a five mile radius.
