The Journey To Revive Oza

Scarecrow the Waxmelder: A lizardfolk member of Equato who went insane after forging a living weapon and her axe; at the cost of the bodies and souls of his friends. In his shattered state, he realized that the only way to atone was to make his own equally as powerful weapon, deciding that Merfolk and Lizardfolk are the more forgettable of the races, he decided to dig up their corpses, or kidnap them.   "Fear the Blue Flame, for constructors that forgo morality and common sense make a flame stronger than anything mindful human would create. -Alterian Follestiar (The Tome of Equato)"   Level layout: ascending in a circle with bridges and levers.

Plot:

Discover Plot: The Party Will be approached by Alpha Azbur Plainswatcher, who is impressed with how the Party handled themselves. He will recap them about the disappearances around Mudclaw and the surrounding areas, with even some farmers coming up missing. He himself is too busy with his private tasks to sort the situation out himself, and it seems his men are having some trouble finding it, and thinks the party might be able to give a fresh perspective. He'll offer to reward the party with 3,000 GP, as well as owing them a favor.   He will speak about thinking that the criminal must be at least around the outskirts of Green Bellow, considering how easy it would be to move in and out of the jungle with it.   Journey to Plot: The party will need to hear or discover an abandoned blacksmith forge on the outskirts; and head over, where they'll find a secret passage that opens to an underground area with dried wax along the walls, which turns out is a library which has books filled with forging information, as well as books on necromancy written in abyssal.   Moving in deeper, the party will discover imprisoned Lizardfolk and Merfolk, as well as transformed undead zombies. The party will have to fight their way through, and activate a puzzle to save them.   Discover Not Plot: The party will find a room that reveals Scarecrow was a member of Equato, as well as the creator of Abralys; they will also find clues in regard to Oza's body being used in another attempt at creating another weapon. They will also find that he has used several souls to cast a high level create construct spell, which has mutilated and manifested darkness throughout the area. They will also find a stone that when boiled down, adheres to the weapon and allows it to cut against even the strongest of metals.   Journey to New Plot: The party will need to move through the shadow realm esc area and fight Scarecrow, as well as his creation, which is using Oza's weapon, ripjaw, and having her corpse merged with several others to make an undead colossus.   Win: Upon defeating Scarecrow, the party will be able to revive Oza.

  The Wax Library Forge

The Wax Library is a space that can't physically exist, but has been filled with so much dark energy that it has made a mini-magica climb, allowing for it to function completely. Upon entering, the party will be in a small nook, with 250 feet from floor to ceiling.   Walls: Unless stated otherwise, the walls are covered in 2ft thick layer of white wax that is constantly melting downwards. If someone attempts to reach through the wax, they must make a DC 22 strength check, or be stuck and take 6d6 fire damage.   Behind the walls are bookshelves that hold books which are unaffected by the wax; inside of them holds information regarding one of the following:   1-45: A book on fundamental forging of various objects such as nails, hatchets, knives, forks, chains, etc.   46-75: A book regarding humanoid anatomy of Merfolk, as well as Lizardfolk.   76-85: A book regarding Necromancy, which goes into detail about manipulating dark magics, and how to create thralls that is written in abyssal.   86-98: A book about forging ancient metal, and requirements for the ceremony to do so. Speaking of requiring a special stone called a 'Cobalt Heat Stone' to be placed in 500 sp worth of boiled silver and coated onto your tools in order to even be able to forge with it. It also speaks that working on ancient metals require putting parts of your own soul into it, which runs the risk of you losing yourself in the creation of it.   99-100: A book of Equato that goes over banned "The Blue Flame" magic smithing, which halves costs required to forge metal objects, as well as making them more potent, at the risk of your own sanity and sense of self.   Ceilings: The ceilings are made up of furnaced mud, and are caked with 2ft of dried, warm wax.   Light: Candles extend out from the walls on hardened pieces of wax, and decorate the area in a soft blue glow. If all candles go out in a room, the room becomes magically dark.   Magic:
  • Any magic that uses fire requires a DC 18 Wisdom save. On a failed save, the caster takes 2d6+6 psychic damage and rolls a d6. On a 1-5 the spell fizzles, while on a 6, the spell hits the nearest ally within range with an extra 2d6 fire.
  • Spells which deal necrotic damage deals an extra 2d6.
  • If a healing spell is used, the user must roll a D6, on a 1-5 the spell goes off as normal, on 6, deal the max healing in necrotic + 1d10.
  • Stairs:   A fine looking wooden spiral staircase goes up 100 feet, then hits a ledge, goes another 100ft before another ledge at the top.   Doors: All the doors are made from an old dark brown wood that has neat metal etchings that are decorative to the hinges, as well as the handles.

    Rooms:

First Floor: The first floor is empty, save for the door to the west, and the wooden spiral staircase that leads to a platform.   Smelting Room: The room has several candles on the floor alighting the area in a soft blue glow. In the center, there is an anvil on a slab of stone, as well as cauldron to the North Western Corner, and 6 crates to the East that have been opened up already. 1,500 silver pieces are inside one crate, with another having hard blue shards at the end. One will have smither's tools that look well used, one will be full of white candles, one will be full of flint of steel, and the last one will be full of miscellanious objects such as wire, nuts, bolts, and other trinkets. The inside of the cauldron will have small silver droplets under it, with a blue flame keeping the pot active.   If the party touches any of these, 2 Candle Creatures will fall from the walls and attack whoever touched them first.   Platform: The first platform will have a gap in the railings, with dried wax on the ledge of the gap. Against the wall will be another door. Across the room will be another platform with a lever on it, as well as a large cauldron with a blue flame under it which is on pivots. If the lever is pulled, the cauldron will flip forward and create a wax bridge.   Old research room: Several parchments pieces will coat the entirety of the room with visual guides with anatomy regarding Lizardfolk, and Merfolk with random organs and pieces circled or scratched out. The far wall has an old looking wagon with several cuffs chained to the bed. The Northern wall has numerous diagrams depicting a humanoid silhouette, and various parts. Lastly, a lithe mannequin can be seen to the South wall, seeming to have a humanoid left arm attached to it.   A closer inspection will reveal that the notes are extremely old, and even closer will show that it is a woman made up of strong metals that are inspired by ancient metal. Several real tendons, as well as smelted pieces of bones and flesh are used to make artificial superhuman strength. Marks like "Increased aggravation: failure. Incomplete thoughts: failure." can be seen written, along with other writing, but it looks too faded to make out.   The arm is artificial, and feels cold and hard to the touch. If the party pulls it off, a smelted forearm bone, as well as pounds of tendon and muscle mixed with metal will fall out; the hand spasming as it does so.

    Second Floor:

There will be a lever on the platform that the party reaches upon moving onto, with another bubbling wax cauldron embedded into the wall on pivots. Once the lever is pulled, the wax will pour out and cool into a bridge as usual; however, as the party makes it halfway, 4 wax creatures will form: two in the front, and two in the back.   The far side holds a set of locked double doors, with the lock itself being a strong latch in the door. Behind it is an ever pouring series of wax bars that form a jail cell along the wall, which there will be 6 lizardfolk, and 2 merfolk. One of which will be the leader of the group; informing the party that a mad man kidnapped them at night, and drug them all the way here, taking them one at a time every so often. If the party frees them, one will say that before he was locked up, he managed to catch a glimpse of a cart filled with bodies. Another will say that he could hear intense rumbling in the area above, like a growl or roar. One last one will say he managed to grab a book out of the walls at the cost of his hand (roll percentiles).   In order to free them, the party will need to defeat Scarecrow, or think of something.

    Third Floor:

The third floor is coated in several white eyes that blink and stare at the party wildly from the wax. The platform leads to a hallways which has a door to the left covered by wax, as well as a set of double doors at the end.   Bedroom: The bedroom will have a table to the Southern wall with several books stacked on top of one another, as well as 3 crates to the Eastern room, and a Bed to the North. The 3 crates are closed, with the left one being a wax mimic-if the party activates it, then 4 wax creatures will spawn from the walls. The middle one houses 25 "Cobalt Heat Stones", with the one on the right housing numerous old pieces of parchment.   A look at the paper shows more detailed schematics for a machine lifeform which houses several corpses worth of biological material in her. Arrows describe her with skin immune to any standard weapon, as well as resistant to magical weapons. Her brain is made from several humanoids merged together to be known as Project: ABR4L1S, which was tested against other designs, and succeeded.   "I cannot believe the amount of materials that lay before me in this old place! Old, and abandoned is perfect for us! I know my team and I can create great things!"   "So far our attempts at creating the ultimate weapon have ended in failure. As such, we've tried to think more...outside the box. What better weapon is there than the shape of humanity, after all?"   "Urgh, my team and I cannot seem to get this right-this is the 27th time that our machines can only reach 75% of our maximum paramiters! It does make sense that a creature that is completely artificial cannot push its own limitations...Forge Brother Carven has been speaking about using more unconventional methods. Surely it would be okay...for progress of metal, right?"   "Success! But, oh Gods, at what cost. We tested the theory on a pig we found in the Black Lake Forest first, and...well, it surpassed all expectations for small scale. Yet, we can go further...but dare we?"   "I did it...we did it...we found a lost Half Elf and...well, let us just say I haven't slept well since. Yet, the outcome validates these questionable actions, surely! Paramaters show the creature can lift over 600 lbs with ease! Yet, it seems to be cursed by the inability to get stronger...more tests must be done."   "We are 18 models in...it seems more corpses yield better results, but there still is a limit. We must surpass it, we have to! My team grows tired, however; regretful. I can see it in their eyes. There was an off limits book I read through when I was in Fire Heart; it spoke about the colored flames, and about how blue allowed one to exceed expectations of the metal they forge with...I'm sure they won't mind being test subjects."   "Oh Gods, I should have done this sooner! Alpha ABR4L1S has been doing beautifully! However, I fear she is too passive-must be the ability of deep thought and morals holding her down. The blue flame guides my hand and mind; telling me to push on...there is a traveling group of Elves not far from here...I know the perfect one to use as a basis..."   "What have I done? Why? What purpose? Was this really my calling? I did it...I lost everyone...and I can feel my mind drifting...but I made my perfect weapon....perhaps too perfect. She attacked me; her mind only caring about destruction and murder....the blue flame surely called me to create this monster. My own hubris...I barely made it out alive, while locking her deep within the Castle's walls...I don't know how much longer I can hold onto my sanity as I feel the Blue Flame's lustful call...but know this...   I create the perfect weapon....and so I defeat this weapon with another...or, ironically enough...fire with fire....there is a village not too far from here that I can go to first."     The books will hold information of the Cobalt Heat Stones, in which they can be used to heat weapons up in order to bend or break against even the strongest of metals for a short period of time. (1 minute).

    Experimentation Room:

The room is filled with pieces of bodies loitering the area, as well as a large experimentation table that holds an amalgamation of corpses morphed into one creature, which holds a long shark-tooth bone greatsword coated in scales in one hand.

    NPCS

Scarecrow The Wax Melder: Scarecrow was a Lizardfolk who started out as a disciple of Equato, and grew up inside of Fire Heart. His innate curiosity at a young age meant he would often break into sacred areas-constantly being punished for such things. However, as he grew older, her went on his pilgrimage to create the ultimate weapon; it was here he met a few artificers that joined him in his journey.   Eventually, the group settled on a Castle in Black Lake to use as a lab. As their morals stripped away, their goal became closer and closer. Eventually, Scarecrow turned on his own scientists, and turned them into the predecessor for Abrylas. Using the banned power of the Blue Flame, Scarecrow went crazy creating his ultimate weapon, who would turn on him; having him escape horribly scarred, but alive. With his fleeting sanity, he wished to cure the world of what he had brought into, by building his own monster. However, in his insanity, he stopped bringing corpses, and decided on living creatures instead. There will also be a cauldron with boiling silver on the North Eastern side of the room
