Corsos Mysceros

Corsos Mysceros is a manifestation type curse of unknown origin, discovered in the state of Schäster in the year 212 Kelzyn Era. The conditions for curse spreading are unknown and it hasn't shown any ability to spread on its own. So far an infectious strain has not been discovered, yet cursory studies of curse structure imply a future possibility for one exists. Researchers have discovered three strains in total; Zalta, Oltae and Lika.

Identification:

A shambling husk taller than most adults, Mysceros can be recognized by their hollow fake eyes. Mysceros manifestations have no organs to speak of and ones "flesh" is little more than spongy vacant tissue. Approaching one is risky, even if Mysceros are not known for outright aggression, for the mechanics of the strains are not fully understood. While local Mysceros manifestations might not be outright dangerous, trying to combat one is. A signature ability among all three strains is an accursed yell or scream, resembling a mechanical siren or foghorn, except disturbingly "human" and piercing. Being too near a Mysceros when it uses this ability might lead to permanent loss of hearing. Mysceros can be fought with conventional weapons, but lack any vital organs to target. Official recommendation maintain that the husks be left to specialists and not local militia forces.

Discovery:

The curse was first discovered in the state of Schäster in the year 212 Kelzyn Era. At first it was believed to be an amplifier type due to its humanoid features, however studies performed on obtained tissues quickly revealed a non-cellular format. This type of vacant tissue would generally imply a lack of design, though researchers remain unconvinced on any proposed origin hypothesis.

Strains:

Zalta strain, discovered 212 Kelzyn Era. First to be discovered and most common manifestation, Zalta strain appears as a baseline form outside wild-aether areas.

Oltae strain, discovered 277 Kelzyn Era. Found on worlds at the outskirts of Schäster's storm, the Oltae strain is more aggressive, taller and leaner. Any Oltae stain found near settlements must be eradicated soon, as their presence can disturb local environment.

Lika strain, discovered 340 Kelzyn Era. Discovered in a deep-aether ravine in western Schäster. The Lika strain is more passive, but possesses limited spell casting ability. Lika strain can mimic simpler spell casts, and it has a notable reserve for arcane energy. Possibility of a self-destructing spell loop is yet to be investigated.
