Shadowfang
As the tiefling siblings enter the cavern, they are met with a scene of eerie stillness and oppressive darkness. The air is thick with the scent of damp earth and ancient stone, while the faint sound of dripping water echoes throughout the cavern, adding to the sense of foreboding. The cavern itself is vast and cavernous, with towering stalactites and stalagmites reaching towards the ceiling like jagged teeth. Crystalline formations glimmer faintly in the dim light, casting fractured rainbows across the walls and floor. The cavern is bathed in a faint, otherworldly glow, casting long shadows that dance and sway with the flickering torchlight.
In the center of the cavern, nestled amidst a pile of glittering gems and precious metals, lies Shadowfang, the young black dragon. His massive form is sprawled out on the rocky ground, his scales dull and lifeless, his breathing shallow and labored. The once fearsome creature appears weakened and vulnerable, his wings folded against his sides and his eyes closed in slumber.
Surrounding the dragon are the enslaved miners, their faces drawn and weary, their eyes glazed over with a dull, vacant stare. They work tirelessly, their hands and bodies caked with dirt and sweat as they labor under the dragon's thrall, their movements mechanical and devoid of emotion.
The tiefling siblings can sense the palpable tension in the air, the weight of the dragon's presence bearing down upon them like a heavy shroud. They stand at the threshold of the cavern, their hearts pounding in their chests as they prepare to confront the dragon and free the miners from his malevolent influence. But as they take in the scene before them, they realize that the task ahead will not be easy, and that they must tread carefully if they are to succeed in their quest.
Once the enthrallment is lifted, the miners quickly come to their senses. They have lots of questions about the kobolds and the dragon, but after finding out what happened they are all very quick to leave to find family and loved ones.
As the tiefling siblings watch the enslaved miners slowly begin to disperse, their expressions shifting from confusion to relief as the dragon's thrall releases its hold over them, a sudden hush falls over the cavern. The air crackles with tension as the tieflings stand amidst the scattered gems and rubble, their eyes scanning the cavern for any sign of danger.
And then, emerging from the shadows, the tiefling siblings see them—two figures, their silhouettes framed against the faint glow of the cavern walls. With a mixture of shock and disbelief, the tieflings recognize their parents, standing before them after what feels like an eternity of separation.
Father: "My dear children, you've saved us. We thought we were lost forever. Seeing you standing here before us fills my heart with more joy than I can express."
Mother: "We were trapped in darkness, enslaved by the dragon's thrall. But you, my darlings, you came for us. You faced danger and risked everything to bring us back to the light."
Father: "We feared we'd never see you again, but here you are. I'm proud of you
Mother: "Also, somehow we were able to resist the dragon's thrall just enough. I suppose the kobolds didn't really want to heal him, as that would've meant giving up their power. Regardless, we found this" and she pulls out a marble-sized orb with what looks like flames on the inside. This is truly a legendary relic- the dragon orb containing the power of hundreds of dragons.
"I cannot imagine anyone else who deserves this more. Take it and do good by the world"
If time, let PCs do epilogue of what they see their characters doing.
