Wyvern Tor
This crag is a prominent landmark in the rugged hills northeast of the Sword Mountains, and is easily visible from twenty miles away. People traveling along the
Triboar Trail in the vicinity of Conyberry catch glimpses of Wyvern Tor to the south as they go. The tor was formerly the home of a large and dangerous nest of wyverns, but a band of bold adventurers dealt with the monsters years ago. Though the wyverns never returned, other creatures lair here from time to time.
To find the cave takes time. Have character leading the way make a DC 15 Perception, or DC10 Survival check per hour to find the camp.
Read text below when found:
The faint smell of smoke hangs in the air as you ascend a rugged ridge on the lower steps of the hill. Fifty yards away, a wave mouth opens up at the bottom of a ravine. Hunkered down by a boulder twenty yards outside the cave, keeping watch is a single scout.
Sentry
• Take out for chance at surprise round
• If sentry sees party (roll perception against stealth) he runs to warn group
• If not killed quietly, possibly alerts group
Inside the cave are
• Six Bandits
• Mad Eye Mariel (Swashbuckler)
○ Sitting on a make-shift throne on a raised area above the camp
• "The Bull" (Beserker)
○ Sitting in the corner sharpening his great-axe (+1 axe)
Developments
If the players get overwhelmed, Mad Eye Mariel will allow them to leave alive if they do something for her (possibilities):
• Kill the Redbrands so they can take up residence in the town
• Help them kidnap someone important in the town so they can get a ransom
• Get information on the 'Generous Benefactor'
• Any other offer will be heard
If Mariel is getting overwhelmed
• Offer to gather information on the 'Generous Benefactor'
• Offer to gain information, kidnap someone or steal something
Any character investigating the cave will find Tharden's body hidden away in a corner. He was killed after he tormented the crew and things got out of hand. He was presumably trying to cause a ruckus in the hopes that he could escape.
Treasure
If all bandits are killed, the party can find a chest with 100gp, the letter from the 'Generous Benefactor', and a pawn statue
