Percy's Log - Day 42

I awoke to droplets of rain hitting the roof of the tent and strong winds tearing into its side. We weren’t going to get much done in the way of traveling this day that’s for sure. It was for the best, Orolunga would be there waiting for us I imagine.   Zamisi was able to locate a small hut near our location and we found it was our best solution to cover ourselves from the harshness of the rains. The hut itself was aged and adorned with many charms, feathers and other assorted bobbles amongst the roof’s overhang. Despite the entire location smelling of rain and wet earth Biera seemed to find the odor not to her liking. I wasn’t sure if this had something to do with her magical senses or if Biera was just not used to the aroma of nature. Nonetheless after our quick examinations of the hut Arden approached its door and before he even had chance to knock a rather unsettling looking woman opened the door to our surprise. The woman was elderly and extremely dirty to the point where the little water from the rain seemed to wash off a layer of filth that surrounded her. The woman introduced herself as Baba Lysaga and she explained that she didn’t receive many visitors, outside of her daughters. Arden related our situation to the woman and she agreed to allow us the privilege of staying within her home until the rains cleared.   Upon entering the woman’s dwelling conversations with Baba Lysaga continued while she began to resume preparations for a meal she had been preparing earlier. Our appearance had halted her while she was in the process of cleaning what appeared to be a Blood Hawk for a stew. After she cleaned it she cut it up and boiled it up in her pot. While she was cooking I tried to get a better read on her but aside from a few yellow teeth and the cake of dirt that covered her the only thing of interest was a small bump protruding from her skirt. Luckily I didn’t have to pry as not soon after a small furry badger that she referred to as “Lizzy” came rushing out. She eased the creature’s fears of us while Zamisi struck up more conversation while she waited for the meal to finish cooking.   The conversation started tame enough with Lysaga explaining that she had been living in the jungles for a while now and that not many people would risk venturing this far past the Aldani Basin due to all the dead that roam the area past it. She mentioned someone whom she referred to as Bonedone, I initially thought she was referring to Ras Nsi while Arden thought she was referring to the Soulmonger and its curse, however she meant neither. She explained that Bonedone was much older than Ras Nsi and even death itself and that we would not wish to meet him during our travels but sooner or later it would be unavoidable.   Eventually the stew was “finished”, though that would be a bit strong given the bird was a tad undercooked and after some debate with my party about if someone should flame kiss it with a touch of magical firebolt… I still say it would have really flavored up the meal… nonetheless I eventually just asked if I could continue cooking the meal on her stove top. In truth my intention was to not offend her since she had already been very generous with allowing us to stay in her home as well as offering up the meal in the first place. For me to correct her cooking ability may have come off insulting. In the end Lysaga seemed fine with my words and so I placed the stew back on the fire and began boiling it further.   While cooking I glanced over at Azzaun and Biera it would seem the young lady had already drifted off to sleep after Azzaun had placed down his bedroll, how she didn’t wake up after what happened next I’m uncertain, but never less we soon heard the galloping of what sounded to be a heard of animals headed towards the hut. Arden peered out the window to view what was approaching and after some shouting in a language I know not what Arden turned to Lysaga and told her that her daughters had arrived. Lysaga however had fallen asleep with her Badger, Lizzy, also sleeping atop her lap. After some more shouting from outside a woman rushed in through the door of the hut and tried to tackle Arden, but he was too quick and wily for her to grasp him. That’s when Lysaga awoke from her slumber and shouted at her daughter, Nirra, to stop. Lysaga explained that we were her guests and we reassured the daughter that we would be taking our leave as soon as the rain stopped. Nirra echoed our thoughts very insistently.   Ultimately the meal finished cooking. The stew tasted vastly superior after having been cooked for just the right length of time and it paired well with a tea Arden had prepared. It wasn’t soon later that the party decided it was time to sleep. Given how hostile the daughters had sounded we decided it was for the best to take our usual watches while sleeping in the structure, just to be on the safe side, you understand.
