Percy's Log - Day 28
After making it to Needle’s Bones we decided it best to just move around it, the prospect for exploring the sinkhole peaked my interest but the priority was finding Zamisi’s friend not mucking about in the swamp especially one that could prove fatal given the all the bones being a rather bad omen.
We continued our journey until we ran into a large mountainside that forced us into a cave that we would have to pass through in order to reach Kir Sabal. Inside the cave we were greeted by strange yellow mist that blanketed across its surface. Arden was somehow able to remember a book he perused during our short time in Chult, identifying that this mist would inflict strong headaches upon any who enter, putting the individual in a major confused state that would by chance lead to their death when they’d likely get lost and wander aimlessly in the jungles.
Safe to say we didn’t want to become walking zombies and decided it best to take a look around for an alternate path. It wasn’t long before I stumbled upon said alternate route that we decided to take it with zero resistance. Inside was a large cavern with sizable holes that lined the walls. After everyone else had entered the cave I followed and decided to examine some nearby bones on the ground, in the blink of an eye after discovering the bones were that of a boar I was accosted by a giant scorpion. How this giant beast got the better of me I’m still weary as I thought I was being verily vigilant when it came to the burrows but I suppose these giant things are just that sneaky. Either way it hit me and it hit me hard. Before I knew it I felt its venom seeping through me and even after I was able to withstand it was met with another harsh blow by its claw. Everything went blank before I was awakened to Zamisi’s touch reviving me.
After some back and forth between Scorpions we were able to put them down through our combined efforts. Some good shots by yours truly, a newly renewed Xandala who seems to have learned how to cast magic again, Azzaun’s great swings from that giant sword of his, a combination of magic and slashes from Arden, Azaka peppering in some arrows, and last but certainly not least Tavaquik who not only aided me while I was in distress with a heal of his own he summoned at his feet 8 vicious raptors that were more than eager to tear into our enemies, he also turned into a giant frog at some point taking some nasty hits of his own.
Those same raptors would prove useful for the threat that was to come. As not very long after we were approach by what I would later see was a giant lizard monstrosity called a basilisk, we’ve had a few instances of them popping up in Baldur’s Gate from time to time… even heard tale that one got loose when someone tried to ship it by boat. Either way before engaging the creature Arden was able to identify it first and warned us to avoid its gaze at all cost or risk death. Though such creatures are dangerous we were able to take it down quite swiftly only briefly losing Azzaun in the process, the raptors were a strong unit, they found strength in their numbers and were able to overcome the beast. I took the creatures jaw as a token of sorts to remember times like these when our adventuring company works so well together that it brings a smile to my face… It will also make a fine display whenever I get back to the Manor… but I’d say it makes for a better fond memory then any sort of status symbol.
After slaying the beast we made it to the cliff side of Kir Sabal, at this point the light of day was fading and the risk of climbing such a peak would prove quite dangerous in the darkness of night so we decided to camp. Arden cooked some of the scorpion that Tavaquik had gathered for rations… I however wanted no part in the downing of said disgusting creature and it sounds as if I made the right choice, though it was edible I didn’t hear many complements from those that ate the dish and Arden went on and on about needing butter. I don’t believe Azaka or our extended compatriots had the “satisfaction” of enjoying the meal either; as Azaka went out hunting and ended up gathering food for both Zamisi and Xandala, as well as herself. Upon seeing that Azaka didn’t spend any of that night crafting arrows I decided to take the initiative and make some for her as I knew there was no way that this woman was scaling this peak and she’d need the ammo if she ran into trouble down here by herself. After the rather busy night we headed to bed.
