Session 4

General Summary

The group waited for Marita to catch up. There was no guard outside the Raven's temple, but the guards by the gate could see the doors. The group decided to send Marita ahead to knock on the door and gain entry, hopefully, with the help of Ohro, possibly. Marita decided to try for subterfuge, and knocked on the door to gain entry and a safe haven, appearing to be in distress. The device worked: Miselda let her in. She continued her deception, appearing to be in great fear and managed to get her host off guard. Marita noticed that Miselda had some blood smeared on her cheek, but was very sleepy. Stealthily, she used her skills in sleight of hand to apply her powdered poison to put her host to sleep. It worked.   Then she let the rest of the group in.   Investigating the temple, Brenar, Marita and Green Walker soon realized that there was powerful magic emanations from below the floor, specifically under the great blood stain, left behind by the executed captive. The fact that this stain had not been cleaned up was alarming, and sure enough, under the rug, they found a secret compartment where the possessed book was found.   The book started whispering to whomever was holding it - first Brenar and then Freeda, but careful use of Dispell stopped the demon's attempts at sorcery.   Eventually, they woke Miselda up, and she, still deeply sedated by the poison, told them of how the demon was her mentor in arts she could never have learned otherwise. Brenar used his sorcery to bind the demon in a pentagram, and Marita attacked it with her Banishment, hurting it, but not killing it. Brenar then demanded that the demon reveal its weakness, which it did: light. So Green Walker used Lightbringer to bring forward a globe of powerful light, which destroyed the thing.   They then spent the rest of the night in the temple.   When they all woke up, Miselda was out of her mind with grief, but also regret over what she had done, and rage over what the adventurers had done. That's when Lady Nirindra arrived. The adventurers let her in and explained the situation, and it was then revealed that Miselda and Nirindra were lovers. But Nirindra seemed to realize that the adventurers were right - and brought guards to arrest Miselda. But Miselda did not want to be taken and used used her powers of sorcery on herself, burning herself to death.   Griefstricken, Nirinda left and told the adventurers to leave Fort River Stone.   They did so, bringing with them the remains of the demon-ridden book. As they left, they met Rosalind and told her what had happened. They retired to the dwarves' camp and later that day returned the remains of the demon-book to very grateful goblins.   Returning to the dwarven camp for the evening, Rosalind came to join them. She had been talking to the people of Fort River Stone, and she had realized that Lady Nirindra had lied: she was also a demon worshipper. And how could they leave Fort River Stone in control of such a liege lady? Rosalind, the dwarves, and the adventurers thus started plotting the overthrow of Lady Nirindra.
