Introduction

And God said "Let there be light," and there was light.
— Genesis 1:3

For Hire is set in the far future where space ships zip past the starry sky as factions duke it out; leaving the smaller and simpler man forgotten. It's a story built around the idea of a comfy feeling you get when you watch films and TV shows like Firefly or Star Wars and it seeks to build upon that foundation to bring up and nourish that same feeling.

What in TARNATION is this even?

This here is where I set the theme and talk about what it all means. Basics first.

Theme

For Hire is dripping with imagery and biblical references. One of the largest inspirations I draw from isn't necessarily another Sci-Fi I admire but rather the Bible and the stories from it as you can derive meanings from the very beautifully woven artwork it calls literature. The main ideas surrounding the setting is mostly Western influences as well as Eastern, for the Imperialists, along with elements of Cyberpunk and its own pantheon of ideas and concepts.

War

Most conflicts are small scale as the current heating up on the border worlds of the Imperialists and the UGE with often claims of trespassing. This is only the small disputes as conflict finds itself within the hearts of those who were stuck out onto the rim of the UGE. As criminals and bandits roam the open space with the UGE unable to contain the crime. Most open space is safe the the exception of the outer rim, though as you move closer to the cradle, you will soon find yourself facing a different kind of criminal; one more calculating.

Science

Science, like most of the setting, will try and remain true to the facts as close as possible without burning me out on the numbers. Viewing the map, you will notice that it contains actual plotted points which can be found in real space. This is the general rule of my setting: If there is a way to explain it quickly enough, then it should be true; If not, then it can follow the rule of cool. The only definite "sci-fi" science is the FTL drive, 'The Missive Drive', which is designed to move space-time around the ship to propel it forward and fast enough to get to places in a reasonable amount of time. Other science fiction items include 'Space Fighters', though they can't out maneuver a self-propelled rocket on their six.

Politics

Delicate and distant, the law makers of the core effect the rim just as much as finding a new resources or springing up a new well within one of the smaller more insular communities. Laws made on Earth are usually influences by the politicians own agenda and often are bought out by entities who wish to bring up their own wants before others. The foundation of the UGE was to be a republic but it finds itself, more than not, silencing those very voices. On the opposite side, the Imperialists conduct their own delicate political dance as each house has to uphold the values of their Patron Kami as they will often discuss business with other houses to keep a balance, even if they dislike the company.
Purpose? What purpose?
I started writing for a small group online for my own enjoyment mostly and this site will act as a sort of Wiki page for my followers.

I love fantasies that have Biblical roots. This world sounds amazing and combines the feelings I get from two of my favorite things, the Bible and Star Wars. Fantastic job. I will be watching this world with great interest. (:
