Prestige Class: Dragoon
In the realm of Ealdor, a human kingdom known for its valor and military might, the Dragoons first emerged under the rule of King Oplana. Ealdor, with its sprawling landscapes and towering castles, was a land where honor and prowess in battle were highly esteemed. To the south of Ealdor lay the dragon island nation of Virago, a place rich in resources but also fiercely independent. The two nations were locked in a sporadic yet enduring conflict, fueled by disputes over territory and resources.
The Dragoon warriors of Ealdor were renowned for their aerial combat techniques and their unique ability to channel the power of dragons. They wielded lances with unmatched skill and were feared and respected in equal measure. The origin of their techniques, however, was shrouded in mystery and tragedy.
During one of the more aggressive campaigns, Ealdor's forces raided Virago, capturing many of its people. Among the captives was a human, whose identity was not known to the Ealdorian forces. This individual, however, shared a secret bond with a dragon, having developed a deep relationship that transcended the bounds of species and war. The human's empathy for dragons was seen as a betrayal by the Ealdorians, and in a fateful decision, the captive was executed.
The death of the human lover awakened a fury within the dragon that had long remained dormant. Grieving and enraged, the dragon unleashed its wrath upon Virago. In a catastrophic display of power, the dragon decimated the island nation, leaving it in ruins and taking countless lives. The aftermath of this event was a somber reminder of the destructive intertwining of love, war, and vengeance.
Among the few survivors of Ealdor's downfall were a couple of Dragoon warriors. These survivors, burdened with the knowledge of the catastrophe their kingdom had indirectly caused, chose to live in secrecy. They passed down their dragon-slaying techniques and aerial combat skills to a select few, ensuring that the legacy of the Dragoons would endure. However, they refrained from establishing a formal order, fearing that the truth behind the Ealdor tragedy might spark further conflict and retribution.
As generations passed, the tale of Ealdor's fall became a legend, its truth known to but a few. The Dragoons, now scattered and without a kingdom to call home, continued to uphold their traditions and skills in honor of a past both glorious and sorrowful. Their legacy, a blend of honor, tragedy, and a deep connection with the mystical dragons, remains a poignant chapter in the history of Ealdor and Virago.
The Dragoon is a warrior who specializes in aerial combat, leaping high into the air to deliver devastating attacks from above. They channel the power of dragons and possess a deep understanding of ancient dragon-slaying techniques.
