The Reclaiment

'Though the fire has faded, we shall nourish the embers.' - Holy Sceptre Daratilus Weaver

Ruins of the Past

The Reclaiment's beginning can be found in the death of the Empire. During the fracturing of the Empire, as nations rebelled and backstabbing became the norm, many had hoped the capital would be a centre of stability. They were terribly mistaken. The capital became a place of travesty, where any sense of law was lost. Several factions were attempting to gain control of the city, the main players being the remains of the Imperial forces, the Senate and finally the Holy Sceptres. Each force claim legitimacy, yet none had the strength needed to fully wrestle control of the city, thus they sought outside actors to assist them, an offer Selgar gladly accepted.   Selgar gladly sent mercenaries and chests of gold to any and all, all with outrageous strings attached. Yet, every side still chose to take these loans, all in the vain hope of finally asserting control. But, no side was able to achieve total victory, with Selgar taking active effort to ensure that no side could be too strong. Thus, this continued for a couple of decades, with the once greatest city being turned to bloody ruins. Yet, this state of affairs would not last forever.   The Holy Sceptres, the remains of the Empire's leaders of the Faith began to change their objectives after so many years of stalemate. Instead of trying to win over the city, they would try to win over the people. Thus, they began the slow process of converting the people to their zealous faith. Though it was a slow process, as it simply started with grain festivals and safe havens for any refugee. These measures began to bring more and more to the Holy Sceptres, what followed next was holy wardens, ensuring that laws could once more be followed. For the first time in ages, the city began to see a true force of order trying, enforcing laws which were once forgotten. Soon many citizens of the city began to openly support the Holy Sceptres, all had grown tired of the conflict and craved order. Thus, the 'Rejuvenation' commenced, a holy event in which the citizens, driven by holy zeal or war weariness, rose up against the Imperial Forces and Senate, driving them out or hanging them in the streets. Yet, the bloodshed had not ended. The Holy Sceptres praised the people, saying that it was by their hands they had saved the city, but now they must save its soul. There were still remains of the enemy in the city, and worse, corruption by outside forces. Over the next month each street shined brightly as former leaders, soldiers, outsiders and all deemed 'corrupted' were cast upon briars. Any not fully devoted to the ideals of the faith thus were either killed or fled the city, leaving only the most devoted. A people united by one purpose, to save the soul of the world and burn back the darkness.

Faith above All

While many in the world follow the Goddesses of Order, none do so to the extent as the Reclaiment. Each part of life is centred on the tenets of the Goddesses as it is believed any dilution or failure to follow their path will lead to damnation. This total belief has united the Reclaiment unlike any other nation, with there being very little open discontent as the people stay united in their faith. However, this devotion has proven to be a double edged sword. As the Reclaiment preaches that it should once more rule and guide all peoples, few if any of these peoples would accept it. As few if any would see their faiths being accepted by the Reclaiment.

Servants of the Goddesses

The Reclaiment is ruled by a council of thirteen Holy Sceptres. Each Holy Sceptre is a pinnacle of the virtues and tenets of the Goddesses, with many within the Reclaiment viewing them as direct servants of the Goddesses. Due to this, the Holy Sceptres decrees are seen as coming from the Heavens themselves, thus are followed to the exact letter. This has led many outsiders to point out the flaws in such a rigid system, as no ingenuity can truly exist in such a system. It is often joked that for harvesting season the Holy Sceptres have to always give out two decrees, one to harvest and one to tell farmers to replant their crops. But, it is also hard to deny the terrifying efficiency these decrees are done. This has ensured many still fear the Reclaiment, as what can truly stop these fanatics besides death itself?
