Pixiepuff Mushrooms

Small, softly glowing purple or blue hued mushrooms which grow in many of Feodris's western forests. They have veins of bioluminescent powder along their stalks and woven in intricate patterns around their caps that makes them glow in darkness. These veins are traditionally scraped away to capture the powder which is known as puffpowder. Puffpowder has a magical component and is used in many spells, potions, and medicines.   Most significantly, puffpowder is a key ingredient in the most potent and effective healing potion recipes.   Pixiepuff spores are crystalline fragments that build up inside the puffpowder veins during Tsenkher-dominant seasons (Krizohm, Qualn, Azorna, Lavanda). These buildups create small pustules along the veins that burst as Tsenkher recedes, the combination of spore crystals, puffpowder, and the inherent magic of Feodris cause the crystals to disintegrate into a smaller component that is invisible to the naked eye and quickly embeds itself into the surrounding soil, causing new pixiepuffs to grow (typically during Vourdan season). The spore crystals are difficult to harvest without damaging them or destroying the mushroom, but they are highly prized for a wide variety of magical purposes.   The remaining flesh of the pixiepuff mushroom is earthy and has a pleasanty salty-sweet taste that amplifies as it is cooked, making the powder-harvested mushrooms a popular food item, particularly in elven cuisine.   Thalmological name: subcaerula vena.
