Skyberia (sky-bee-ree-a)

Conditions and Geography

Skyberia is an extremley mountainous planet, with a dense, yet low-oxygen atphosmere. By human standards it would certainly be considered a rather harsh place, with altitudes that few people would safely survive at (most flat, liveable ground is at least 3km above sea level, though never above 8k because of the limits posed by gravity) and temperatures regularly dropping below -20 degrees. Winds constantly batter the rocky cliffs, speeding up erosion to twice as fast as Earth. Speaking of rocks, there is a certain metal in the ground that is very intriguing. How did Skyberians achieve space travel so fast if their planet is so hard to lift off of? The answer lies in Voilorlite. Lighter than even lithium, which is the lightest metal on Earth, Voilorite was initially used by Skyberians for the construction of spacecraft and other arial vechiles, allowing them to lift off the ground as easy as any other planet.

Bird Biology

On Skyberia, birds have incredibly unique biology to survive in the harsh conditions, including:
  • Thick feathers and decent layer of fat, keeping them warm but still allowing flight.
  • Massive chest cavity fitting large hearts and two pairs of lungs. This allows the Skyberian birds to breathe normally despite the amount of oxygen, and gives them enough stamina to glide for several days without taking a break.
  • Huge wings similiar to an Albatross for soaring, along with an extra, tiny pair supporting the head.
  • Thick legs cushioning landings on hard rock. Not built for perching on narrow branches.
