Dwarf

Dwarves are a mountain and hill dwelling race that are famous for their iron-work and technological prowess. They're known for their extreme work ethics and determination. They are spread out, and not many are found in the thirteen major cities.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dwarves are often short, yet sturdy and stout. They have thick limbs, and broad chests. If they were taller, they would most likely be considered the ideal human male.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dwarves go through the same birthing process as humans, with a similar gestation period.

Ecology and Habitats

Dwarves prefer the cold winds of the hills and the mountains, as well as the carving areas these locations provide.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dwarves are omnivores, making them very flexible when it comes to what they eat.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Dwarves usually have rounded faces with strong chins and jawlines. Usually, these features are covered by very long hair that dwarves grow to combat the cold winds of the terrain they live in.

Average Intelligence

Dwarves, despite their often childish behavior, are extremely smart and great mechanics.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Dwarves have an extremely impressive hearing, usually able to hear a whisper from across the room. They also have a good darkvision, being able to see 30 ft. into a dark room at the expense of color.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Dwarf names, like human names, often reflect their ancestors careers and/or clans, such as Shoemaker, Ironmolder, and Shadowmantle.

Beauty Ideals

Dwarves are obsessed with armor, and so the most attractive feature a dwarf can have is their armor. Dwarven armor is often jewel adorned and bright, with multiple colors. This is why dwarves are often commissioned to craft armor for nobles and kings.

Gender Ideals

Dwarven males and females are often seen as equals, and so they both have the same expectations placed on them by Dwarven society: Be strong, and be hard-working.

Courtship Ideals

A dwarves ideal marriage ceremony is at a dwarven stone temple called a Zerath, which is a temple carved into the side of a mountain or cave wall with a dwemer god, often Olaf Stonewright, at the end.

Relationship Ideals

Dwarven couples are often seen as equals, and therefore both put in the same amount of work and effort into their work, relationship, and other activities.

Average Technological Level

Dwarves are technologically advanced, as they are the inventors of most modern technologies in Faymare. These include Arkhaus, RAWs, and BPEDs.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Most dwarves speak Dwarven and Common.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Dwarven culture is inspired heavily by Dwarven gods like Godsmith and Olaf Stonewright.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

The most famous tradition is a holiday called Stonewrights Day, where artisan clans of dwarves group together and carve a giant, legendary statue of Olaf Stonewright, the mountain god.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Dwarves are often viewed as hard working people. They view Humans the same way, and use the term "varyfolk" often for them. Most dwarves admire the Elves magical prowess, though others see them as posh and not very humble.
