Totems

Totems are power infused objects that are created over time with the same energy that resides in the Rune Stone  . These totems can be created with conditions unknown to the world of Fauna which makes magic users a rare case.
These conditions are set rules the gods have put on the use of their power whether that be a village who worship one of the gods that may create a totem over time that supports one of the magical element that god possessed. Other conditions can be down to extreme life experiences such as persistence of hard work, love, envy, greed, loss and so on.
Around a quarter of the population had or have access to a totem whether that be a village who use it for their connection to the god and help prosper the village or by individuals who use them for their own personal gain.
A totem cannot be given or sold to someone to benefit them as the totem awakens from the set of conditions from the group or individual have met. These totems are not chosen, you are chosen by the totem and these totems come in many shapes or forms. Totems can be a weapon, armour, jewellery, tools, transport and even a building.
These do come with limitations however, obtaining a totem does not make you a god or have unlimited energy. You gain abilities your body can handle at the time and as you develop so do your abilities.
Totems need to recharge, just like an individuals stamina or hunger metre. Too much excursion can cause a reduction in the users life span. This is because the totem recharges from the natural energies of Fauna over time but if a totem has been given its time to recharge it will depend on the users life energy to keep it going which could lead to death.
A totem user cannot use the powers of the totem if the user does not have it on their person. 
Journeyman Jackal  has a magnified glass he used on his expeditions which eventually developed into a totem that allow him to produce artificial light which benefitted his trade whether he needed it for dark cave or even light a fire. This is but a fraction of what a totem is capable of.
