Demon

Humanity often characterizes demons as being a cruel species that loves all acts of evil and would love to see all life extinguished from the Mortal Realm. However, there's actually a lot more depth to modern demons than they would think. Had they known this, there might not be as much much prejudice towards them when they tried to integrate into their society.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Most demons have a typical humanoid appearance, usually with two horns on the sides of their heads, a tail, and more rarely, a set of wings on their backs. A demon that has strong Proto-Demon genes might develop an extra set of arms, or grow larger than normal. Most demons of this type have stayed in Hell.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Most demons have a social structure similar to humans, though most of them are known for their desire to get away from the brutish Proto-Demons. Because of their constant presence, it's been hard for the Demons to build a society as complex as other races. After Tempus came back from the Mortal Realm with tales of what lies there, a new wave of excitement echoed throughout Hell, and everyone dreamed of a day when they can join human society in all of their activities.   Nowadays, the ones that found their way to the surface have found a way to make their lives work, and have learned to adapt to Human culture.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Given their heritage, most demons are capable of some form of magic, although some are more gifted than others. Most of them are capable of "sensing" a person to some degree, meaning that it's almost impossible for an amateur to sneak up on a Demon.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Many demons like to pick up names from their own mythology. One example being Belial, who is named for a legendary demon from the distant past, who is thought to have never existed.

Major Organizations

The organization known as The Deadly Sins is comprised of the strongest Demons in all of Hell, three of which are actually Proto-Demons. Each one is named after a deadly sin, and possesses a unique soul that contains a special power. Until they all broke out, they all served under Lucifer to keep everyone in line. After all Hell broke loose, they all went their separate ways to try and fulfill their own secret ambitions.

Average Technological Level

Prior to breaking out of Hell, they had some understanding of technology. Lucifer helped Pride in his research that often served to advance Demons, and distance them from their Proto-Demon cousins. After breaking free, most of them had no trouble at all adapting to the human world in that aspect, though Pride could never make sense of Human's moralistic limits on research.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Given that their species was brought about by interspecies relationships, most Demons are not opposed to having a partner from another species. Some demon-human couples have been reported on occasion, with some even considering having children. In the distant past, an Echoan and a Demon met each other and had Greed, one of the more popular Demons on Earth.

Inspiration

I don't think I need to say where this species came from, but I remember wanting them to be more 3-dimensional as a species, as opposed to the demons from Doom, or something.

Their skins vary greatly in tone, coming in pitch black, red, and sometimes purple. In rarer cases, they can come in green, blue, and human skin tones. Demons with bright white skin have also been reported, but Greed is currently the only known case.
