Evocation

While rare, in its natural state, Evocation can condense into highly energized spikes of solidified particulate, appearing most often as a blood red explosion frozen in time. More commonly however, it takes the form of an amorphous mist of active magic, catalyzing itself and the nearby environment, usually to destructive ends. If the concentration of particulate is significant, a violent chain "stability" reaction cascades throughout the wandering Evocation cloud, forming the signature crimson crystal lattices that can be harvested through traditional means, all be it carefully. As stated previously, this "natural" state is infrequent enough to not be the go-to source of Evocation, as the unpredictability of its formation makes it difficult to locate fields, but also the size of said fields are not nearly large enough to sustain the overwhelming demand for the school of magic. With this being said, this brand of particulate is never-the-less very abundant, though not in the wilds of the Wastes. Instead, most Evocation primarily originates as a byproduct of refinement, compression, or manufacturing, the general manipulation or combination of other magic schools, destabilized to such an extent as to ventilate pure Evocation mist to maintain its integrity. Consequently, the Evocation Houses ordinarily resorts to backwards diplomacy to negotiate for the byproduct particulate. The owning House that accidentally produced the Evocation tends to hold such valuable commodities ransom from the native Great House, demanding pension for their contributions and decreasing profits for the Evocation Houses as a whole. In addition to the political dangers and ramifications, the school is also by far one of the most unstable and volatile, constantly discharging random spells and secondary explosions that could and have easily vaporized even the most well-equipped and seasoned expeditions. The hazards continue on to Evocation's unique pre-refining phase, which requires them to force a stability reaction to form that can be harvested and refined, which they can then condense into refined particulate. Unfortunately, due to the constant potential threat of death, safety taxes and sanctions have been imposed on the school to limit its production. The reasons for which being stated previously, but also because Evocation - unlike other particulate - is considered weaponized at Grade 2, industrial at Grade 3, and commercial at Grade 4, making it the easiest and most affordable school to imbue in military arms.    In Meridian technology, Evocation plays a pivotal role in converting its naturally unstable force to destabilize other schools of magic and itself, the procedure of which creates energy that can be harvested and stored for all manners of application. As such, this particulate form is employed universally in all industrial settings, powering great contraptions and assemblies that would otherwise be unsustainable with other schools of magic. Of course, Evocation is most widely ridiculed for its potential to be utilized to unsavory ends, able to be harnessed for warfare quite easily, quickly, and to lethal effect. Evocation weapons and arms are by far present the highest ratio of particulate-to-power, its unstable nature contributing to its lauded strength.
