Cosmastery

The magic of that which is neither dead nor living

OVERVIEW

Cosmastery is an ancient form of magic that first came from the peoples of Ancient Fallora. The name is a Prianese derivative of the Ancient Falloran word "kyaa-smata", meaning "mastery of that which is neither living nor dead". This means that people gifted with cosmastery-- or cosmasters, as they are called --can manipulate substances that are not and never were alive. They can control things like stone, metal, clay, and glass, but not fabric, leather, or wood.

HISTORY

Cosmastery originated in Ancient Fallora, among the native peoples, the Mat-Kyaan. When the Red Foxfolk landed there, they were impressed with the power that the Mat-Kyaan possessed and formed a strong alliance. The Mat-Kyaan, using their incredible engineering and architectural skills, took the Foxfolk's ship design and made it ten times better. The Foxfolk learned from the Mat-Kyaanik magic technique and applied it to their own, allowing them to make better structures and houses. Together the Foxfolk and the Mat-Kyaan built a mighty civilization, wild and magical and magnificent.

INHERITANCE

The power is hereditary, either one has it or one does not. It is a dominant gene, but people may go their whole lives without realizing it, as utilizing cosmastery requires focus and form. It cannot be learned or taught, and it does not require any kind of wand, staff, or other channeling device. It's most common in Casenti, but gradually it has spread to a sparse population in Prian and rare cases in Mayrinth. Of those last two countries, no one has been reported to have discovered their magic, and if they have they kept it secret. Even in Casenti, very few cases are ever actually discovered, and if they are they are very hushed up.

POWERS

As stated in the Overview section, cosmasters have the power to manipulate inanimate things like metal, stone, clay, and glass. They can heat them, cool them, change their shape, and levitate them, although not permanently like a spell. The possibilities for art, architecture, and smithery are endless.
