[Memory] Webbed Memories
She sees the bars first, blanking out the horrific face of Snareshine. There are men in purple robes and the girl laying on an altar. She was clad in a white gown, clean and prisitine, not at all what they wore in confinment. White curls splayed out on the altar, pale skin glowing in the light of candles that are placed around the room.
The chanting fills her ears and she tenses. She remembers it clearly now, memories pulled out of the resceses of her mind by the spider webs of the Archfey.
She feels herself screaming, but no words come out, not a single sound escapes her lips in the lair, and yet in her mind she is screaming for help. For them to stop, to ask why they are doing that.
"Stop it! Claudia! No stop it!"
The light from the candles flickers and she sees the dagger glint in the light as it's plunged deep into the girl's heart. The darkness that errupts upon the room is all consuming and the meek candles that are around the room flicker out into complete dark.
She hears the clang of metal in front of her cage, hears the screaming and chanting of the robed figures. In her dimmed vision she sees the dagger, glinting in the nonexistent light just within the reach of her cell.
She felt helpless that moment, how could she have promised to save her when she could never help? Not her friends, not Claudia.
"Wouldn't you like to be able to change things?"
"I would." Oh god she would. Her hand shot out to grip the dagger. The latch on her cage fell open and there she was. She didn't know how to fight but it was similar to dancing with the darkness as her partner. The blood was warm and sticky. And it was...freeing.
Ai's vision snapped back into reality and her shoulders relaxed as she stared up at Snareshine.
[Memory] An Artist and A Musician
"I want to be an artist." She said as Ai was laying on the ground staring up at the damp ceiling. The words where an answer to a question the woman asked earlier. When we get out of here what will you do?
"Like a painter?" Her eyes shifted from the cracked rock to the grey - at some point surely white - curls of the girl sitting next to her.
"Yes! My mother is a painter, she took me with her to her clients houses often and let me paint with her. It was fun." In a place where they saw no future talking about the past was all they could really do. How long has it been since Ai was thrown in here? She didn't really know. There was no sunlight in this place so what could've felt like weeks might've been only a few days.
"I'm a musician." Ai offered. "Me and my friends have a little band, we play around Neverwinter." Eyes back to the ceiling, gaze past the rusty old metal bars that made up the cage around them.
"Oh I'm also from Neverwinter. We live north of the river." Live. Ai wondered if it was a good idea to keep talking in such present terms, as if they weren't in here. As if they were just chatting at a tavern somewhere. But that maybe if they didn't do this, they both would've broken down days ago. "I'll make sure to come to one of your performances once we get out of here."
"I'll get rich and commission you to paint me then." There was a short chuckle from the satyr, which died down quickly as the footsteps echoed down the tunnel and they rapidly scooted away from the each other to the opposite sides of their respective cells.
[OOC] Backstory
Where Ai was born is not quite clear, her parents, Marie and Andrew Hammerforge, always told her that they found her in a cabbage field one night, nevermind that for as long as she lived with them they never grew cabbages. From the moment Ai could think of herself she knew she was different, the people on the street was stare at her as she passed by, the other kids never wanted to play with her, calling her a "goat" and "goat-legs". Sure the adults were better but even there she could see distrust and sometimes disgust with her appearance.
Unable to play with other kids she consumed herself in fairy tales and music. There were two other kids who were just a little shy or just a little weird for the rest of the village who she ended up being friends with: Portia Evergreen, a small human girl a year younger that Ai, with pretty blonde hair and dark brown eyes, and Latice Shavali, an elf boy two years older than Ai, he was awfully tall and lanky with a pudgy nose, tanned skin, black curly hair and greenish eyes. They ended up being friends for Latice was shy and Portia loved listening to Ai read stories. They didn't need all the other kids for their little group was enough.
When Ai was 18, Portia, Latice, and her left the village of WhisperWoods and headed for a bigger city of Neverwinter, along the way they performed on the road and collected tips. It was difficult but eventually they managed to find apprenticeship under one of the many bands of Neverwinter and began performing small time gigs. Sure even here Ai faced some discrimination but with the help of her friends she never let it bring her down.
She was 20 when they broke into the little flat that she shared with Latice and Portia. The wooden door never stood a chance, if there was anyone awake at that hour of the night they looked the other way as the three of them were dragged out and thrown into a cart to be taken who knows where. That was the last time she ever saw her friends. She doesn't remember much of this time clearly, the memory is all clouded with panic.
