Campaign Information Primer
The date is 1503 in the Year of Realms reckoning. The Greenfields, called simply the Fields by its residents, were once a wholesome and quiet place where someone working with their hands had a real bond with the land... in a relative sense, of course. Dragons and giants are a regular part of life. As the breadbasket for the Sword Coast and the primary exporter of livestock of all forms, the people had a life full of purpose and a level of stability not seen often in the magical lands of the Realms. Then things started to happen.
The neighbors to the South of the Fields was the land of Amn. Its once lush landscape is now plagued with locusts. To the north, a town basking in the glow of two suns was submerged for a time in the consuming fires of the Nine Hells to repay a long ago devil's bargain that finally came due. The city returned, but the second sun did not. The land, which once was free of the undead, now teems with hordes of the undying that now and again spill over into the Fields.
Then dark events occured in the Greenfields too. Its only real town, Greeenest, was burned to the ground by an attack from the Cult of the Dragon. When the "Great Rain" season flooded the Fields and sea levels were rising across the world, the earthmotes that flew over much of the Realms dropped from the sky. A single roaming earthmote fell in the middle of the fields. To this day its called Lonely Rock. Finally, a legend from bard's tales of old emerged and started to create havok in its wake - the gargantuan Terrasque. It finished off the town of Greenest after it struggled to return from the town being razed years earlier from the Dragon attack. No known power could combat the creature causing most Fielders to flee and the rest to seek safety at the town being built atop the new Lonely Rock. Ranchers abandoned their homesteads and became nomadic - keeping their herds on the move. Farmers prayed hard their deity would keep the terrible beast at bay as they did what they could to keep tilling their land.
There was always a good living in the Greenfields, but it just got harder. The Field's farmed goods are now in higher demand as other agrian centers have suffered great losses recently ( like the locusts to the south in Amn). The Terrasque did cause lots of destruction and loss of property but it also reshaped the terrain and, at times, uncovered great treasures. Veins of silver were brought easily to the surface after a rift was torn straight through an unknown deposit. Entrances to old ancient cities have been exposed and treasure hunters come from lands beyond seeking to raid long lost artifacts. Opportunity now abounds. This is where you come in.
Perhaps your family came from the now destroyed Greenest and you are a Greenfielder in your blood. Perhaps you came to the area in search of new opportunities. Whatever the case, you are one of the new citizens of Lonely Rock, termed Rockers by the surrounding farmers and ranchers still working outside the safety of the town. You have been here a while - long enough to form relationships with some of the other Rockers.
So - do you have ideas on who you are playing? Ideas on what their goals and dreams are? How are they handling the changes to the lands around them? Do they welcome the new arrivals looking for fame and fortune? What do they think about the prickling on the back of their necks? The one that gives you all the feeling that Something Wicked is coming...
