Session 5

General Summary

Last session began with the party gathered in Cragmaw Cave, a small cave network that has seemingly been claimed by the goblinoids of the Cragmaw Tribe. Your attention had been drawn to the top of nearby ledge, where a goblin stood holding a dagger to the throat of Sildar Hillwinter. The goblin demanded to know who you were and why you had ventured into the cave. His questions led to a tense standoff, which ended with you and goblin coming to an agreement: if you killed Klarg, one of the bugbear leaders of the Cragmaw Tribe, the goblin would return Sildar to you unharmed. The goblin said that you would likely find Klarg on the opposite side of Cragmaw Cav, and he pointed you toward a passageway at the back of the chamber.   You followed this passageway a short distance before coming to a wooden bridge.  Still in the form of a giant spider, Althea climbed to the cave ceiling and crept into the next chamber, where she noticed three more goblins standing next to the shattered remains of two wooden dams. The rest of the party soon took notice of these goblins as well, and Fea and Wellington went to ask the goblin holding Sildar for help drawing them away. The goblin agreed and sent his underling to speak with the three goblins in the nearby chamber. After a brief conversation, two of the three goblins were convinced to leave. The third goblin hesitated, seemingly uncertain if he should join the others or warn Klarg. As he turned to report to the bugbear leader, he bumped into the arachnid form of Althea, who had silently descended from the ceiling behind him. Althea buried her fangs into the goblin’s stomach, pumping a lethal dose of venom into his small body. The goblin shuddered and fell limp, and Althea carried the corpse upward and affixed it to the stone ceiling.   The group then began forming a plan to draw out the occupants of the next chamber, where Althea had previously spotted yet another goblin preparing food over a small fire. Albero conjured an illusory likeness of the goblin holding Sildar captive and sent the illusion up the stone steps. Badger then cast prestidigitation, and the image called out and gestured back in the direction of the party. Shortly after the illusion descended the steps, the bugbear appeared at the top of the stairway, accompanied by tge goblin and a chained wolf. The party launched a surprise attack, hurtling spells and crossbow bolts at your enemies. The trap proved successful, as Klarg and his companions soon lay dead on the steps before you.    As some of the party entered the room, they noticed the small cooking fire, a small chest near the foot of Klarg's bedroll, and several crates and barrels stacked against the east and south walls.
