Dyrus is a Half-Elf member of the Waterdeep City Watch, sworn to protect and defend the city from all threats. A devout follower of the Crown, Dyrus has sworn an oath to uphold the law and preserve order in the face of chaos. From his childhood, Dyrus looked up to the knights of Waterdeep, and desired to become one when he grew up. Facing difficult odds (Half-elves in the Watch were few, and part-drow fewer), Dyrus persevered, and rose through the ranks, eventually being selected to prove his worthiness to take the Oath of the Crown. He succeeded, and was anointed a paladin of the Crown, as part of the City Guard. Soon, he received his first assignment: investigating reports of disturbances in the distant town of Pescatro. This was the first time Dyrus had been on a mission beyond the walls of the city (as the Watch did not typically operate beyond its reach). With the holy fervor of Order at his side, Dyrus departed to combat the forces of Chaos, and all those who would disrespect the laws of civilization.

Personal history

Dyrus's father was a drow elf from a traveler's caravan and his mother a human. Dyrus has never met his father, but frequently experienced discrimination and racism from his peers in Waterdeep due to his Drow nature (despite Waterdeep having been noted to be tolerant even to Tieflings). Dyrus's mother was negligent of him, causing him to be frequently bullied and left to fend for himself. Despite this, Dyrus grew to admire the City Watch, who were the only people to defend him as an equal despite his drow heritage.
When he came of age, Dyrus sought to join the Watch. However, the Elvish higher-ups in the Watch were wary of his Drow heritage, and he was denied entry again and again. However, a human captain, Reginald T. Solomund, noticed the authenticity of the boy's desire, and pulled some strings to grant Dyrus entry.
Dyrus is wary of Elves of any kind, as they were the most racist towards him in the past (Drow Elves desire the genocide of all other Elvish races, and many Elves believe those of Drow blood are inherently evil).
