Kaliel
The young Kaliel Lefey is one of the elf maidens of Cloakwood forest's Circle of Dreams. These druids' magic mends wounds, brings joy to downcast hearts, and magically beautifies the lands they protect. Villagers from outlying towns come to the maiden's forest village and leave offerings at their shrine to the nature spirits of the Old Faith. In exchange, the priestesses periodically cast spells to heal the sick, provide fair weather and prosperous harvests for farmers, aid nearby villages in combat, and commune with ancestors and nature spirits to help counsel human leaders.
Kaliel's mother, Archdruid Andraste Lafey, is the high priestess of her Circle. Lately, Kaliel set out on a pilgrimage to gain a deeper communion with the primal spirits of nature, and prepare her to take on the power and duty that will transfer to her when her mother passes from this world.
In deep seclusion in wild places across Faerûn, Kaliel began to sense an unnatural dark energy in the plane of dreams. The young elf returned to Cloakwood and sought her mother's insight on this disturbance, only to find Andraste gravely ill. Frail and withered, Kaliel's mother took to hiding her sore-ravaged face behind a ceremonial mask. Baldur's Gate's military and police force, the Flaming Fist, and their expansionist leader Duke Ulder Ravenguard, have taken advantage of Andraste's illness and begun establishing guard outposts in the northern part of the Cloakwood. Andraste has asked her daughter to join a team of exotic adventurers to destroy the source of the death curse.
