Rose, Rumor, Wave, Weave XIII

"Mama, Mama! Can we go to the bakery before we go home?" Tazi asked excitedly. "I wanna see if they have elc- cla-" She bit her lip in concentration. "E-clairs. They're Auntie Ripple's favorite!"
"Just Auntie Ripple's favorite?" Temerity asked fondly, one eyebrow raised.
"Well... My favorite too. Pleeeeeeease?" Tazi looked up at her mother with big, pleading eyes.
Temerity laughed. "Yes, we can go to the bakery. But we have to pick something out for everyone okay?"
"Okay! Come on, let's hurry, or they might run out!" Tazi grabbed Temerity's hand and started pulling her quickly through the crowd towards the bakery. Temerity followed quickly, careful not to lose hold of her daughter's hand.
They entered the bakery, and the owner smiled at them. "Well, if it isn't my favorite customer," she said to Tazi. "What can I get for you this time?"
"Two e-clairs, please!" Tazi said. "And... And... A cimmanon roll!"
"Cinnamon," Temerity corrected gently.
"Cin-na-mon," Tazi said dutifully. "For Auntie Jin! And a lemon poppy seed muffin for Auntie Mira, and... Um..." She looked at Temerity. "What do you think Auntie Shira would like?"
"We'll take two red velvet cupcakes," Temerity said. "One for me and one for Shira."
"Two red velvet cupcakes!" Tazi repeated.
"Coming right up," the owner said. She packed up the pastries quickly. "Now, don't you run with these, okay? Be very careful." She handed Tazi the box.
"I know! Cause lots of time and love went into making them!" Tazi said. Temerity counted out the coins and handed them to the owner.
"Thank you. Your pastries are her favorite part of any day we come here," Temerity said.
"It's my pleasure! Be safe getting home, now."
"We will," Temerity replied. She put her arm around Tazi's shoulders and led her out of the bakery. "Let's hurry home, okay? I'm sure everyone will be happy to see that box."
"Okay!" Tazi held the box carefully, walking slower than she had before and being careful not to bump into anyone. When they got home, Temerity opened the door for her.
"We're back!" Tazi called. "We brought patties!"
"Pastries," Temerity said.
"We brought pastries!"
After a moment, footsteps hurried down the stairs, and within moments, Ripple had opened the box in Tazi's hands and grabbed one of the eclairs.
"Who's my favorite niece, huh?" she asked, ruffling Tazi's hair. "Mmhm, it's gotta be Tazi!"
Tazi giggled. "I love you too, Auntie Ripple!"
Mirage followed ripple down. "Thank you, Taziel," she said politely as she took her muffin.
Temerity looked around. "Where are Jin and Shira?"
Mirage and Ripple glanced at each other, then Ripple swallowed her bite of eclair and spoke. "Arguing."
Temerity frowned and looked at Tazi. "Why don't you go play, sweetie?" she said gently.
Tazi looked at the three of them. "Okay," she said uncertainly before running off. Temerity turned back to Ripple and Mirage.
"Again?" Temerity asked worriedly. "Jin's going to get herself killed..."
"Yeah, well..." Ripple shrugged. "Shira sent her on a heist by herself. Near got her caught. Jin says Shira told her some of the security measures that nabbed her didn't exist. Thinks she did it on purpose."
"On purpose?" Temerity raised an eyebrow.
"You know Shira," Ripple said. "She'd get any of us caught if she thought it'd be fun, or if she had a whim to do it. Jin's pretty convinced."
"Well, she better be careful," Temerity sighed. "Might not get away next time." She took a bite of her cupcake.
"Do you really think it matters what she says to Chishira?" Mirage asked. "She'll do what she wants either way. If she wants Jin caught, it won't matter how much Jin argues with her."
"But if it was just a whim, it might go away if she keeps quiet," Ripple argued.
"... We should keep an extra eye out for her next few jobs," Temerity said. "Just to be safe."
Mirage and Ripple nodded in agreement, and they lapsed into silence.
