War Spears

War Spears are the main weapons used by the merfolks. With an uncommon sharp coral at the end of a long stick of either driftwood, shipwrecks, or on the rare occasion from the plantlife in the ocean, these weapons were commonly used in conflicts with other merfolk communities over territories. In some cases, the war spears are used during dances either to help depict events with past events or showing how strong their community is compared to the others.
There were rumors of Duel War Spears, only wielded by the Royal Guard of the merfolk communities. Some have seen them highly trained with them, able to block, dodge and slash the regular war spears with ease. These spears also ended up being put together with shells that looked more than ordinary, easily standing out from the plain colors. However the hunt for these more rarer versions of the sharp shells has lead to more skirmishes than discoveries.
However, when The Umbra began greatly affecting the ocean and causing the merfolk communities to have an uneasy truce, the War Spear's role in their lives was greatly reduced. Once tools of combat were now left as tools of self-defense on rare occasions. Even then they were more commonly seen as tools used to keep the fish livestock together, decorations in merfolks homes, as well as being simple items used in some of the dances but only used in the Cave of Storytellers given how dangerous they still are. If The Umbra continues to worsen the effects of the ocean, there's a more likely chance these spears will become relics of a lost age.
