T'Seari

History

Early History

Located in the Scorching Expanse of Zharia, the nation of T'Seari began as nothing more than a collection of nomadic tribes. Driven out of country after country due to their heretical religious beliefs, these tribes eventually arrived in the unclaimed expanse of desert that would eventually become one of the greatest countries in the world. These people quickly realized they would need to support each other to survive in the harsh climate, and were able to develop a system of excavation that allowed them to survive the harsh temperatures. As they hunted in the scare ecosystem of the desert, mostly surviving off of the nutrients granted by the giant sandworms they hunted, a community was formed, and the city state of Kay'r, now the country's capital.

Itre'z the Brilliant

While the people of Kay'r were able to sustain themselves for a time, it quickly became apparent that their way of life was not sustainable. Overhunting of their food supply quickly resulted in scarcity, and eventually extinction of the worms, and frequent tunnel collapse killed many inhabitants of the city. Luckily, in their time of need, a great innovator arose to meet the challenges his people faced. Itre'z the Brilliant was able to develop a solution to these problems, and more, creating a multitude of devices to help the people of his city. Among these devices was a way to harness the bright light of the desert in order to produce the nutrients necessary to sustain life, as well as devices that shielded the people from the sun's scorching rays. As a result, the people of Kay'r were able to leave their caves and build homes on top of the sands.

Expansion

Itre'z's inventions were, in fact, so helpful that the city began to develop satellite towns, and expand into the surrounding area. As the population expanded, Itre'z was declared the unanimous ruler of the budding country, and the nation was named T'Seari, meaning Born of Light in the native tongue of the Searans, a tribute to his great inventions. As ruler, Itre'z recognized the importance of progress, especially if the new nation was to survive when political adversaries discovered their technology. He funded projects from many of the best minds in the city, and when he died, passed on the mantle of leadership to the person he believed to be the smartest in the nation. This began the tradition of passing on the title of leader, who the Searans call the Auctoritor, to the most intelligent individual in the country.   During this time, the nation of T'Seari continued to expand, eventually encompassing the entire Scorching Expanse. However, when the borders of the country and its neighbors finally met, the Auctoritor thought it unwise to continue to attempt to expand, and halted the activity. For several hundred years, T'Seari kept its borders exactly the same, not ambitious enough to invade, but not so weak as to be invaded. Throughout this time, their technology continued to progress.

The Calamity

When the Calamity of Magic struck, T'Seari found itself in much the same place as the Araxian Empire. While technology was common, magic was generally frowned upon, as per the tenets of Noctem, which holds that the only true magic is Dreamcraft. As a result, while some of their technology malfunctioned, the country remained stable. The other countries in the region, however, were not so lucky. While the Auctoritor did not feel it her place to invade, she did believe it the purpose of the nation to provide aid during this time of need. As a result, she sanctioned the use of much of the technologies T'Seari had kept hidden for centuries in order to aid the failing nations and their people. As a result, many of the surrounding nations either sore fealty to T'Seari, or collapsed, leaving a power vacuum that the country was forced to fill to avoid outright chaos in the region. This led to the acquisition of much territory, despite the best intentions of the ruler

Modern Day

Society

Today, T'Seari is one of the largest countries in the world, second only to Araxia. It is a place of great innovation, one that seizes every opportunity to learn more about the workings of the world. While magic is not banned, it is not common practice, yet neither is Dreamcraft, as Searans largely focus on true technological advancement. The Auctoritor is currently Sari K'Saras, who inherited the position only a few years ago for the invention of mechanical wings, which have already proven to be quite useful. Kay'r remains the capital of the nation, and is known to the rest of the world as the city of lights, due to its system of mirrors which provide consistent light to every building in the city by reflecting sunlight. This greatly extends the hours of daylight, especially in the downtown region, where large, multistory buildings are prevalent. Many of these mirrors are even capable of producing their own light, allowing the city to be comfortably active after dark.

Relationship to Araxia

While T'Seari may be thought of by most of the world as a country of learning and insight, one country in particular does not see it that way: The Araxian Empire. Since the Calamity, the two have been fierce rivals due in part to their conflicting religious beliefs, as T'Seari practices Valoa, worshiping the Queen of Light and Magic, while the Araxians practice Umbris and worship the Queen of Air and Darkness. As a result, Araxians see Searans as weak fools who want everything in life to be handed to them by the Queen of Dreams, while the Searans see them as barbarians performing the bidding of an evil god. This has led to them placing significant pressure on Araxia, which has hindered much of their conquest on Avryn, as they have to constantly watch their opposing country to ensure they do not strike at them. However, this places a significant drain on T'Seari as well, who have to devote many more resources to their military strength than they would like, and the proximity of Kay'r to the Acleria makes many in the country nervous.
