The Wolf & Moon
Summary
This is a tale of how the Moon fell in love with the Wolf and the events that followed their love.
Historical Basis
The Moon fell in love with a wolf. The wolf is commonly associated with the god as a companion, lover, and guardian. The God and wolf are depicted together in any representation of the god. The depiction of the wolf and the were-creatures are said to be the proof of the love affair, as both appeared later.
Some believe the reason wolves howl to the moon is caused by her companion's howling and his former pack when he goes to the god's side.
Variations & Mutation
There are many variations to the origins of were-creatures. The tales change from region to region, however, three legends that seem to appear in every region in one form or another. The Song : Karliene - The Wolf and the Moon - Queen of Camelot
On a dark Winter's night
/ In the polar white snow
/ A wolf lay wounded and cold
A fight with a bear
/ Had left him exposed
/ And death was drawing near
He lifted his gaze
/ To the shimmering moon
/ And she smiled her silvery smile
She wrapped him up tight
/ In a blanket of stars
/ And the kiss of her indigo light
For theirs was a love
/ As old as the Earth
/ The wolf had been by her side
And he sung her songs
/ Of passion and love
/ And they kissed in her indigo light
In the morn he awoke
/ And to his great surprise
/ His wounds had healed in the night
Oh how could this be
/ When his death had been nigh?
/ And he looked to the crystalline sky
For theirs was a love
/ As old as the Earth
/ The wolf had been by her side
And he sung her songs
/ Of passion and love
/ And they kissed in her indigo light
On a dark winters night
/ In the polar white snow
/ The wolf sang songs to the moon
Beautiful songs
/ Of passion and love
/ Time could never subdue
