Exalia is a world teeming with magic. Even the most humble and peaceful lands here still have dragons flying overhead. Magic in this world was fundamental in its creation in both a canonical sense and in an inspirational sense. When the world was first being created the lead author had a very open concept in mind. Essentially, some groundwork would be laid and the rest would come in due time. In this way, Exalia is inspired by pulp fiction. As in similar settings there is a place for everything in Exalia. Magic train? We got that. Civilization of dragons? We got that. Ancient swamp that spawns horrifying monsters? We got that too. All of this, and more.
This basic idea, one where everything has a place, is supported by a few key world details that I believe set Exalia apart. Firstly, there are no alignments to be heard of in Exalia. A fiend can be good, just as a celestial can be evil. This allows for any story, from any perspective, to be told. Secondly, this is a world of diversity. Every race has a position within Exalia and most have a territory they call home. However, you will find that some of the races of Exalia have some alterations to how they came to be, and what they exactly are. Thirdly, there are magics weaved into the fiber of Exalia that serve to assist in the creation of unique and truly powerful heroes. There is the Font of Adventure, an ancient and fundamental magic that allows some individuals to gain strength and experience far beyond normal limitations. There are Secret Arts, which are both canonical and purposeful magics that exist beyond races and classes. Have a player that wants to bend an element like Avatar? We got Secret Arts for that. Have a player that wants to paint constructs into existence? We got Secret Arts for that. Finally, the last fundamental aspect to Exalia is a certain kind of being that stands out compared to mere mortals. The Godlings. Seemingly the godlings have always existed. These ancient and mysterious beings have magics that some would say approach divinity, yet they walk the continent just like any mortal.
Finally, to anyone reading this, there is one final secret to this world. A secret that is so powerful that it is only known by the Godlings themselves and those they trust most closely. You may have previously asked yourself, how could a single world contain everything? Surely some details would contradict, or be mutually exclusive. Well, this is a fair point. To this end, Exalia was also created to support and make use of "other worlds". The first way this represents itself is with a far expanded system of elemental planes. There are two additional primary elements in this world of wood and metal. This in turn creates far more paraelemental planes, and special microelemental planes that border three elements. In these planes magics can become so powerful that they become alien and terrifying.
However, the existence of these additional elemental planes was not the secret that I mentioned previously. This system of elements and all the others are designed to support and breathe life into a critical and identifying point about Exalia. That, in every sense, it is not the only material plane. On the other side of the elemental planes, lies the world of Anishba. Anishba is both similar to and completely different from Exalia, but the nature of these differences and similarities is something you will have to read more to truly understand. Welcome to the Twin Materium (Exalia and Anishba) dear reader, hope you enjoy your stay.
