Rixiam

Glitzy. Gilded. Grimy. The city of freaks. The city of Rixiam stands as the soulless ghost of a gold rush mining center, turned haven for gamblers and criminals; a city of gold built atop a mountain of mud. Over two centuries before, the discovery of rich gold veins within the Sundor's Brow sent a rush of eager folk to its base. Rixiam began life as their base camp, and over the next century grew into a lively, booming city. Gold and minerals came out of Rixiam, and creature comforts came in. Troupes of players and musicians, merchants peddling food, liquor, and illicit goods arrived in force. Sex workers quickly followed, and those who would abuse them and enslave them were close behind. Unfortunately, the veins began to produce less and less, and in desperation, the mountain was ravaged by hungry interests unwilling to accept the signs. Within ten years, the mining industry in Rixiam had died, poverty and hunger becoming commonplace. With the mining industry erraticated, Rixiam doubled down on gambling, switching nearly it's entire industry to tourism. Those who live below the poverty line are forced to sell their bodies and talents to visitors to take advantage of or laugh at.

Demographics

The population is largely human (37%), with smaller numbers of halflings (23%), elves (17%), dwarves (9%), and other various races (13%)

Government

The government in Rixiam is all but useless to the common person. The Mayors is always in the pocket of the highest paying gang, and don't tend to last long in their position before mysteriously disappearing.

Industry & Trade

Rixiam was once an old mining town, but now most of it relies nearly entirely on tourism and gambling.

Guilds and Factions

There are three main gangs/factions vying for control over the city.

The Ivory Stallions

The Ivory Horseshoe casino and resort. The ivory stallions are those hired by the president of the casino to do his dirty work and get his hands dirty. They're the roughest of the bunch.

The Night Riders

The Night Riders own the backstreets and alleyways of Rixiam. Especially the South Ward They're all but a myth to many fortunate enough never to see them. But for those not so lucky, the visage of an ebony chariot being pulled by a nightmare is burned into their eyelids.

The Virtuosos

Don't be fooled by their name and their tunes. The Virtuoso are as deadly as their music is beautiful.
