Oderron City

Two towering concentric walls of stone stand at the eastern shore of a seemingly endless sea. Rising above them is a tower that contains the Hearthstone. It functions as a lighthouse for fishermen in the adjacent sea as well as the battery for the city’s defenses against the Mist. The top remains lit with a pale violet and gold light throughout the seasons of Dusk and Fret, only extinguished during Morne while it recharges in the continual sunlight. The outer wall is only broken by 2 roads leading into the city with a nigh impenetrable gate at each, named Scaez and Enavar after the Sun and Moon. Scaez’s gate in the north leads to the docks and Enavar’s gate to the East opens to a paved road that winds between farms and disappears into the woods. Buildings hug the outside of the outer wall, seeking protection while a small port housing fishing boats creeps along the rocky shore of the sea. Inside the outer wall, buildings of all sizes are crammed together, fighting for space.     Smoke stacks dot the outer city as factories operate to produce materials needed for every facet of daily life. When the sun rises over the eastern wall each Morne, it illuminates the surrounding forests, burning away the Mist and bringing with it a celebration from the residents of Oderron. The trickles of farmers making the journey to and from the safety of the walls into the fields each day look like ants from an anthill under an everbright sun. Caravans and carts are equipped with canvas tarps to create shade. During Dusk and Fret, they replace the canvas with lanterns that provide minor refuge from the Mist.   The inner wall marks a drastic change. The buildings are larger and more luxurious with courtyards and decorative trim. The skyline is pierced by three spires of the Church of the Triumvirate in the center of the city along with the manors of each of the governing families. Streets are covered by intricately cut sailcloths whose shadows create magnificent designs on the streets below using shadows.   As Dusk falls, those who remain outside the walls may hear the shambling of undead and occasional clashing of metal as the Woodsmen protect those in their charge. Within the walls taverns stay open as those who have demons to drown do so and those who wish to revel in life imbibe in the local draughts.   Once Dusk draws to a close and Fret approaches, the Hearthstone is lit on Bellow’s Eve. Lanterns across the city and farmland are lit as people gather on the Shell to watch the Mist roll in, as if blown through a smith’s bellows before it crashes against the translucent silver barrier of the Beacon.

Demographics

Oderron is a verifiable melting pot of every race in the land. The city was founded as a sanctuary for those who needed it and, over the last 723 years, has attracted folk from all backgrounds. There are still differing opinions about certain races, but only Tieflings are explicitly shunned or belittled by the general population.

Infrastructure

Two massive walls surround the central Hearthstone. The inner The Heart Wall houses the ruling families' estates as well as the Chambers of Oderron where they meet. The Church of the Triumvirate is built into the base of The Hearthstone and holds a small, exclusive sermon there weekly. Other higher ranking guild leaders and nobles of Oderron have their mansions here as well.   The Laureth Institute is also in the Heart Wall. Its students form orderly lines as they move from class to class. The teachings here reflect the proper etiquette expected of nobles and officers in the city.   The Shell, Oderron's outer wall, protects major trade and housing districts for residents who live and work within the city. Much less organized or defined than the streets within the Heart wall, this where the majority of Oderron's population resides. A massive marketplace, The Still, dominates the northern district. Shops of all sorts line the streets and a massive open-aired market with traveling stalls and merchants give the only relief from the claustrophobic construction of the outer city. The eastern part of the outer city is mostly residential with a few small shops dotted here and there, in this district is Tetora College its twin spires rising just above the height of the Shell. Dormitories ring the base of its central building and small paved courtyards are overlooked by classrooms. Walking by the college, it is not uncommon to hear lectures punctuated by explosions and plumes of smoke.   The southern end of Oderron is mostly populated by warehouses and workshops dotted with taverns and bars for the blue collar workers to visit after their shift ends.

Guilds and Factions

Lighter's Guild: Evocation and Abjuration specialists. Their primary duty is to light the street lamps each night and tend the Hearthstone. However, when needed, they serve the military as cannoneers. Their evocation specialties allow them to fire cannons with much more force than others can achieve. (Light clerics, wildfire druids, wizards, artificers mostly)   Merchant's Guild: Primarily focused on the smooth operation of businesses within Oderron. While not a frequent event, when a caravan makes the trip through the Mist, the Merchant’s Guild hosts them and ensures trade is conducted properly. Most trade occurs during Morne when the roads are much safer.   Tiller's Guild: Spokesmen for the workers outside of the city walls. The Tiller’s Guild hires Wallers and Woodsmen to combat the ever growing threat of undead against farmers, loggers, hunters and fishers who work and live outside the walls. Loyalty to the Guild over Oderron is a concern for the governing families as those within the walls depend on the goods produced by the Tiller’s Guild, but those outside the walls are mostly self-sufficient and have little need for what is produced within the walls. (Rumored to be the commanding authority of the Woodsmen)

Climate

While tropical for two out of the three seasons, Oderron during Fret becomes cold and wet. The sun doesn't rise until Morne when it burns away the Mist. During Morne and Dusk, the city enjoys balmy weather with an ever-present sea breeze blowing through the streets.
