Bawic (bah-WICH)
Bawic is a small village on the southeastern side of the Swina Marshes . It has existed for all of known history, the residents keeping to themselves and exploring the mysteries of the Marshes.
Led by their Witchdoctor, Bawic fixates on the medicinal and toxic properties of the flora and fauna in the area. The knowledge contained by the natives in this village is enough for it not to be directly under Dolinde, The Twinned City. Their independance isn't complete, however, as Dolinde provides many necessary resources for the villagers, as well as some luxuries like magical storage containers, red meat, and vegetables not grown in the Marshes.
Demographics
The inhabitants of Bawic are mostly reptilian beastfolk. Living in the Swina Marshes without some type of natural resistance to poison is almost impossible.
Government
Bawic is led by their Witchdoctor who is chosen by the spirits during the funerary ritual of the previous Witchdoctor.
Defences
Not accessible easily even for those who know where the village is, Bawic relies on the Marshes surrounding them for protection. One wrong step can easily kill any interlopers, and those who make it will have to deal with the toxic weaponry brewed in the village.
Industry & Trade
Inhabitants here live mostly as they have for their entire existence. They grow, harvest, and cultivate what they need from the surrounding marshes and trade with merchants from Dolinde. Their expertise on the poisonous creatures and plants in the Swina Marshes has led to incredible advances in medicine and potions for Dolinde.
History
Independant tribe that refused to join Dolinde. Instead of wiping them out, the ancient rulers of Dolinde, The Twinned City saw their usefullness and established exclusive trade with them. The village kept its independance and its traditions, but merchants from Dolinde were now welcome and brought with them luxuries from the Twinned City that the villagers had never seen before, creating an indirect dependancy on Dolinde.
Architecture
huts surrounding a central bonfire pit. Long, narrow wooden walkways to get into or out of the village. Crude nets at the entrance to buildings to keep insects out.
Geography
Barely above the swamp water. Situated just far enough inland to be out of the salt marshes and their tides.
Climate
hot and humid, air and water are stagnant
