Sultanate of Scuorpio

Here in the original homeland of the Mannish amidst the burning sands and dry wastes, the Hath-Haradrin people have mastered their environment. Ages ago, the Dry Calamity annihilated most of the fertile jungles and grass fields of the greatland making Scuorpio synonymous with the word "desert". Most of the old and varied tribes of the First One Mannish died out, but the tenacity and survival instincts of the Hath-Haradrins tribe allowed them to forge a place for themselves on the face of Everim.   The Sultanate of Scuorpio is currently the only government that holds near full control over an entire greatland. Apart from the shifty nomadic tribes and traders that scrape by an existence in the Spellfire Desert, the Sultanate holds all shorelines and the few fertile lands capable of sustaining civilized life. They have been able to tame the deserts by discovering what little oasis spots and dugout wells there are that make it possible to traverse the land. In the heart the Sting region in the Royal Desert stands the capital of the Sultanate, Sai'al Jahana where the Sultan rules over his kingdom with an exuberant, but still iron fist.

Structure

The Sultanate of Scuorpio is a hereditary monarchy ruled primarily from the grand spires of Sai'al Jahana, the capital. The Sultan rules together with his ten sons which he had sired with his ten wives. The Sultan and his princes govern the ten main provinces of the greatland that are divided relatively equally among them. The Venom Isles off the coast of the Sting region is controlled by various nobles and cousins of the Royal Family.   The Sultan wields essentially absolute power over his kingdom. He mainly focuses on the Sting region and the affairs of the capital. The Sultan delegated most of the governance of the military, trade, infrastructure and so forth for his sons to deliberate. Each prince models their region differently from the next in establishing and disbanding various institutions and positions for each need that arises for the province. They hire and fire people based on need and whim very often and it can be difficult to pin down exactly what the ruling tradition of Scuorpio is aside from a total dictatorship.

Public Agenda

The Sultanate primarily concerns itself with keeping the greatland unified by pacifying the restless tribes of the desert and keeping the noble families of the Sultan happy and contented to abide under his rule and pay the provincial tithes which keeps the capital alive in the harsh climate it was built in. Trade is the lifeblood of Scuorpio and it relies heavily on the coastal bazaars and trade cities. Dustmen merchants are found virtually everywhere on every land and isle where people exchange goods.

History

The current Sultanate was established after a brief conflict called the War of the Remnants.   When the War of Succession broke out within the Empire of Unicora, Scuorpio was a realm that was already fomenting much rebellion prior to it. Underground resistance fighters and nomadic desert dwellers began raiding Emperal supply lines that were supporting various factions fighting in Unicora for the throne. Over time, the Emperal colonies in Scuorpio grew weary of the fighting and separated themselves from the Empire establishing a city state republic called the Order of Sol'Arren and relinquished control over most of the southern and central parts of Scuorpio to their native Mannish populations. A short peace was established between the freed Mannish of the south and the Empi controlled north, but the soon the desire to free the Mannish on the northern coasts grew strong and a charismatic warlord of the southern Adiniah tribe united the local chiefs and their war-bands leading an invasion that eventually forced the Order of Sol'Arren, the last remnant of Empi control in the greatland, to surrender and incorporate their holdings under this tribe's control.   Soon, the warlord marched his men to the gates of Sai'Al Jahana where he was tested by a religious leader in the city called the Voice of the Hidden to leap himself off the Bridge of Faith, a massive arched causeway leading out of the city into the burning sands and ending at a single, sharp point. It was the belief of this prophet that the Bridge was originally built with a small amount of material called everock which has a spiritual connection with the god known as the Hidden. If he were truly favored by this god to rule over Scuorpio, he will be able to cast himself off the bridge and land safely to the bottom. Initially scoffing at the very idea of such a thing, the warlord soon was enraptured by the thought of listing through the air to touch down on the heat of the sand and erupt victorious. Driven by some unknown desire, he proclaimed he was favored by this god and marched to the bridge's steps. His men and chieftains begged him not to fall for such a trick, but the warlord strutted to the edge of the Bridge of Faith undeterred. The screams from his men as he bowed his body forward off the edge were deafening as they raced over to the edge themselves to see the fate of their leader. Yet the cries soon turned to silent amazement when they beheld the warlord standing totally unharmed at the foot of the bridge. This miraculous event solidified his rule in the city and word spread quickly across the land. The clout gained from the prophet's test established the Adiniah tribe as the ruling and royal authority over all others in Scuorpio.
