We approached from the southern pass which slithers up a hill which was blocking our sight onto our final destination. Final destination. It feels weird writing it down since I did not realise until later that final describes everything about this place perfectly. I worked as a minor accountant for a syndicate in the entertainment district of the capital, when I got busted during a razzia. It happend quite fast. Got sacked, sentenced and put onto a carriage with a few others. Sentence? Eternal Exile to Evercount. The fortress no free soul ever saw. As we reached the top of the hill a green gleam touched our blemished cheeks, worn out by the relentless trip. The Jade Walls of the Eternal Monastery reflected the rising sun, bathing her new arrivals in it's monstrous glory. Only few stories of this place travel the world, but the ones, which do leak, paint a clear picture. The screams of Evercounts tarnished inhabitants would be audible from miles away. It would be guarded by demons, that spew poison and decay. Unliving would feed on those incarcarated and most new arrivals would end their lifes after only a few hours of residency. Mothers threaten their children with sending them to Evercount to get them to behave and criminals like myself would pretend to not be scared of a mere fairytale made up by our rulers to keep is in line.   Evercount, the Eternal Monastery of the Overburdened Shift is not a piece of fiction, but the only true thing I ever knew. As our escort approached the wicket with our entry fee I stared upon those walls. Those green walls rising to the sky were not made of stone at all and especially not of Jade. They are made of tendrils, moss and leaves. And thus I learned my first lesson on the true face of Evercount.
