Givellion

Givellion was a neutral good god of good, plants, light and radiance. Givellion's following runs deep within agricultural centers. Ranchers, farmers, herders, vintners and brewers alike worship Givellion for warmth, light and for plentiful crop yields.

Description

Givellion was usually called the ‘Healing Harvest’ or ‘Loving Light’, and images of him abounded throughout much of the greater continent. The effigies and statuettes of Givellion adorned many small agricultural settlements and small towns. He was always depicted with a gleaming nimbus of sunlight, flowing, thick locks of hair and beard, a smile, and modest, tasteful, and often striking hooded robes. He was celebrated through week-long lushness parties called ‘Festivals of Light’, usually celebrated in late summer, at the conclusion of a good crop year. Revellers frequently burnt small agricultural sacrifices to him and other local spirits. And they toasted his seasons of generosity with a nice local wine or mead, enjoying themselves and drinking in the joys of the harvest.

Personality

As tender and generous as Caelithia was, so was Givellion. He was most powerful on the longest day of the year, when his energy could ignite the most fertile harvests. He believed generosity must be given to receive, and so he taught that tending the Earth with open hands, tasting of its bounty and sharing it with others, would bring forth its fullest gifts. Givellion was revered not so much because of what he supplied as because of his temperament; his easygoing and welcoming ways made him a symbol of good.

Worshippers

Givellion was worshipped chiefly by farmers and ranchers and those who depended on land’s bounty to feed themselves. His devotees built no temples to him, only in their fields and gardens did they erect shrines to him, for those places were the only true temples required. Very rarely, could a temple of Givellion be spotted. Effigies of Givellion were stationed on their borders to watch over their lands, and to enliven them with a spirit of generosity and gift-giving. Givers of Givellion were bands of wandering worshippers of Givellion who moved from town to town, planting crops and sharing their food with the poor whenever there were signs of famine. In this way, they sowed Givellion’s generosity and breadth of spirit through the lands.
Worship of Givellion included feasting done to honour Givellion as well as tending a garden plot, harvesting the corn-ripe fields and sharing food with friends and neighbours. The stories of Givellion and what it meant to worship him were transmitted from child to child and from parent to child so that, before a child could tend their first planting or help reap their first harvest, they absorbed the lesson that the earth has a heart and gives to us out of sheer generosity, and in return we are to give back to the earth and each other.
